firsty_ferret Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I've been playing the organ on a weekly basis for a while now, but in order to practice at my local church I have to help out at the local sunday service... does anyone have any tips or suggestions for performing at a church service please? oingo86 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Performing as in playing hymns? The best thing to do is not think of it as 'performance'. You're the accompanist for the whole congregation. Also, the music you provide is merely acting as a vessel for continued worship, for the congregation. It is not music for listening, so keep that in mind. That will help focus you, so you don't get nervous every time you play. (God forgives wrong notes ;)) The main skill you want to build up is sight-reading, since you'll be playing new music every week. Quote
firsty_ferret Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 OK thank you very much that helps a lot :). I've been playing through the hymn book and I seem to be OK at sight reading most of them. Thanks again :) Quote
