Gijs Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Hello all, I,ve seen how we compose, what we compose and when we started composing, but now i like to know why do you compose? What do you get out of it? What does the energy you put in pay you back for. For me, it's the possibility of playing with emotions i quess. To be able to manipulate without the normal consequenses. Also to be able to give way to feelings that i don't easily give way to. Why do you do it? Gijs Quote
Guest thatguy Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 sometimes we feel emotions that cant be expressed in words Quote

ram Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Why do you do it? Mostly for the fun of doing it. Quote
robinjessome Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Why do you do it? To freak out the squares. ... Quote
nikolas Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I do enjoy Robins replies everytime the question arises... Sometimes I'll just quote the bunch! :D Quote
Old Composer Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I think it's fun. There's definitely some satisfaction in it, plus people think you're cool. Really though, I've always been creative, and always driven by a need to create. Since music is my passion, it manifests this way. No doubt if I had pursued art I might be an artist now, or if I'd followed English I would be writing fiction. Quote
Gavin Gorrick Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Why do I compose? Three words... Dolla Dolla Billz Quote
Dirk Gently Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 If that's why you compose you'll be very disappointed to find out that composers are generally not very wealthy :P Quote
robinjessome Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ...you'll be very disappointed to find out that composers are generally not very wealthy WHAT!??! AW scraggy!!!!!:horrified::angry::horrified: Quote
Cyril Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I compose, because its fun, and I always enjoy making music that is almost like the kind of song I'd like but not quite there. Such examples would be anything by Mushroomhead, Ghost Love Score by Nightwish and a few other songs that don't quite get there. :D I love composing because if I wasn't doing that I would probably be very much bored and a gamer. Gamers aren't bad, but... its not as a good a feeling as composing. Quote
rob1984 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 For the end result, a finished piece. And you can say (hopefully) "Wow, I actually created that". It's satisfying. In fact, a lot of the time the actual process of composing can be a real scallop and a bit of a chore, more so than it used to be. But creating something beutiful from nothing is well worth it in the end. Quote
jujimufu Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Because I like it :) Why do you cook pasta? Because you like it. You wouldn't cook pasta if you didn't like it, and it wouldn't be too good for you to not cook pasta if you like it. And life (and appetite as well) is all about what we like and doing what we like because on the bottom line we only have one life to live, and if we don't do the things we like in that one life, when are we going to do them? :) Quote
DrPangloss Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I compose because I love music. I write the kind of music I enjoy listening to. I'm really a playwright and lyricist primarily, but very often when I'm playing with words, music comes out along with them. I get ideas that sing to me, so I turn them into songs. I was also raised on musical theatre, so some of my theatrical ideas sing, and then I turn them into musicals. Those are--I think--the most satisfying, because cabaret songs exist on their own, but musical theatre songs are pieces of a whole. Creating a score is a huge project, so completing one is very satisfying. Quote
tenor10 Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 For music. Thats why. In the words of Franz von Schober, "Du holde Kunst, ich danke dir dafur"(there should be 2 dots over the u in darfur) Quote
Dirk Gently Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I compose because I am a composer  Quote
Yagan Kiely Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Because there's nothing good on TV. :D I love music, and I want to also write music I love to listen to. Quote
joeharmony Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Because it's the only way I can express some of the things I want to say, especially about feelings and emotional experiences. And because I can - because a part of me knows how to do it. Quote
