It came to me in a dream...

Well, O.k, technically it didn't come to me in a dream; it came to my friend's father in a dream, but that just wouldn't have had the same effect.

Anyway, this is a melody that my friend's dad heard in a dream he had. He remembered what he could and I wrote it down. I've attached a .MUS and a .MID file of the melody so you can listen to it.

What I'm really looking for here is to see if anyone recognizes it. It seems to me that it has to be an actual song that he heard somewhere and then dreamt it, because it's a very strong melody, very nostalgic.

There were lyrics that went like: "It's time to say bye to old friends". I tried googling it but found nothing that sounded anything like this melody.

If anybody recognizes it, then I would be very grateful to know the actual name of it. If nobody recognizes it, then I might keep it for myself.;)

It might just be me but the opening reminded me of Auld lang syne :blush:

It doesn't remind me of any piece/song I know with that melody, sorry. But it is really hard - I certainly find to remember any dream - let alone music so I don't know how reliable your transcript is. Not that I doubt you or your friend's father but you have to take into account that where his memory fails him, his subconscious might have taken over and "created".

Yeah, there is a lot of potential error here; especially in the remembering of the dream and his ability to sing it back properly. It just seems so familiar...
