JairCrawford Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 More color choices would be great. But don't change the default skin... it would be too... the default skin is just... well it's like... YC just wouldn't be the same without it. Quote
ram Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Music is an art that benefits from companionship. Haydn used to say that he listened to a lot of music and that it was what helped him achieve his master pieces. Improving the site to make sharing and peer reviews more efficient is what will benefit the most to the community, and hence to each of us. Quote

Couldn't agree more with you there. Listening to music is the best way to improve one's composition abilities. Quote
Nirvana69 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 You use TANGERINE?!?! :O:horrified::sick:That's the worst one of all!! I use the Dark Yellow. Wow, I've never tried changing the forum skin before...that's just awful. Quote
jujimufu Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 That sounds pretty cool. Where the heck do you get all the money from, though? Is it just from ads? If yes, then it's stunning how so few ads can give you that much money :P Quote
Mike Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 The money is just capital chopin is investing in the site. Practically nothing comes from the ads, as far as I'm aware. We received the first status report from the developers yesterday, by the way. :) Quote
robinjessome Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 We received the first status report from the developers yesterday, by the way. :) Cool! I hope it all goes smoothly this time. Quote
James H. Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Mike, if just about everybody clicks say... three ads every visit, will it help the site at all? If we can contribute by simply clicking ads, I say let's all do it! But if it doesn't do any good, why not lose the ads? Quote
Matthew Becker Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Improving the site to make sharing and peer reviews more efficient is what will benefit the most to the community, and hence to each of us. I strongly agree with this. I haven't been here very long, but this type of integration would definitely be innovative in comparison to other music critique boards I've visited over the years. Quote
Dead Chicken Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 yay progress! Yay Music! (efficient = convienence) = cheers from lazy people like me. ... Will it make us cake? Quote
tenor10 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 This all sounds really good. I hope it comes through. Quote
Mike Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 We're due for some design mock-ups quite soon. Should be exciting - we may share snippets depending on various factors. :) Quote
Mike Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 It is now my pleasure to present our very first design mock-ups for the upcoming system! :D I should stress that these are conceptual prototypes only; the eventual design will not be this crude. Also, the content is framed (not in the literal sense) using the wiki interface, just so it doesn't sit all by itself; however, the real system won't be part of the wiki. Upload Compositions User Profile Video Performance As you can see, the mock content they've put in there is that of a generic music site as opposed to that which acknowledges our leaning towards "classical" (i.e. art) music. Don't be phased by this, because the content means nothing at this stage. These are just a few screenshots from a 43 page document delivered to chopin and myself on Thursday, which outlines the system's overall specifications. Our developers have it all planned out - all that's left now is to actually create the thing and then liaise with us until it looks and behaves how we imagined. Expect the next update in a couple of months. :) Quote
Anders Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Remember: one should be able to categorise multiple movements as one piece. Else it'll just get clunky and annoying. ps: what the hell does ''lorel ipsum'' mean? Quote
Mike Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Remember: one should be able to categorise multiple movements as one piece. Else it'll just get clunky and annoying. I'm pretty sure we're doing that, but I'll check all the same. ps: what the hell does ''lorel ipsum'' mean? It's just there to fill up space. In publishing and graphic design, lorem ipsum is common placeholder text used to demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. It is a form of "greeking". Quote
JairCrawford Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I can hardly wait! :w00t: The Force is strong with this! (Careful I must be when sensing the future) Quote
robinjessome Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008  Exciting times... Although...I totally think that video-girl deserves at least 4-stars. ;) Thanks for keeping us updated, it all looks pretty cool! Quote
Daniel Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 One of the best mockup that I have ever seen. Quote
Dirk Gently Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 April Fool's!! Oh wait, no...Looks great :D! Quote
Majesty Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Very exciting indeed. Its touching and encouraging to see the amount of work and effort that is going into the growth of the site and helping to promote its members. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 That looks great. I'm imagining that once one uploads a composition, one may link to it in threads and posts, correct? Sorry if that's a silly question. I would imagine that's the idea, but I've been away a while and I'm rusty as to how things work, and intentions on how they will. Quote
Mike Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 It will of course be permissible to link to uploaded music in posts, but that isn't "the idea", as such. Instead, the idea is for the new system to function as an independent unit, at least to some extent. Uploaded music will be displayed on user profiles, promoted on the front page via charts etc., searchable through the in-built search engine, and so on. Also, I think I suggested to the developers at one stage that newly-submitted music (among other things) appear on what is currently the results returned by the View New Posts link here on the forum. Thus, it would then become View New Content. I'll check to see if this made the cut. If not, I could probably code it myself at some stage. Quote
