Dan Gilbert Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I am new to the forum so I don't know how many of you already know about this. Sorry if this is sort a "duh" post. Colorado Springs has one of the only two Young Composers Competitions for composers under the age of 18. I know a lot of you are under 18, so I thought I'd post this. You don't have to live in Colorado Springs to enter, of course. I'm not sure, however, if you can enter if you live outside the US. You probably can though. A lot of the pieces I've heard on here from people under the age of 18 sound like pieces that have a very viable chance of winning in their categories. Last year, I won second place with the song cycle "Great Things" that I posted in the vocal section. First prize each year is a copy of Notion software! It's a great thing to put on your resume for college, especially if you win. If you win a place or an honorable mention, you will be invited to participate in the recital for the winners of the competition. Unfortunately, entry fees range from 20-50$ so if your PARENTS can spring for the money, it's a great experience. I live in Colorado Springs, so I've done it every year since I was little. You can hear some of the winners and read information here: Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition Quote
