JairCrawford Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Stoic Sith. I don't even know if this is possible, but I'm curious. Quote
Romanticist Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Stoic Sith. I don't even know if this is possible, but I'm curious. OOOH AWESOME!!!! I wan sidious!!! :w00t: Quote
Dirk Gently Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Wow, that is probably the ugliest Sith ever. Like, potato-ugly. Still, it's a good idea . Makes the smileys seem more even :P. Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Is that supposed to be a sith version of :stoicjedi: ? It's very ugly. Maybe... I've been missing a few smilies in this smiley set, I think it has a very limited selection. I've looked at other smiley sets and they are all so ugly that I hope nobody decides to replace our own. I think our set is called Proticons, but I'm not sure. If it's possible to add a few more on to our own set, I'd love to do so. Could I, Mike, or Mike? Is it possible? Quote
robinjessome Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Can we get some more USEFUL smilies first? ... Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Like? I'm thinking, if it is possible, add the following: :-S :-\ :-| :-] XD .... any other suggestions? If I made them, could they be added? Hmm... I should also do a little Link, from Zelda, for when asking for people to link to something they're talking about. LINKY! *Note to self... add headphones smiley for Robin* Hmm... I would also suggest removing :glare:, because it looks like  and "dry" looks better than "glare", it's color matches the rest a little better. Also, same with :whistling: and :musicwhistle: .... just get rid of "whistling" and replace it with the other, because I think having two is a little redundant. Quote
Laogeodritt Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 @Enigmus: If it's anything like PHPBB, you need FTP access and admin privileges. It's possible you'd only need admin privileges. Either way, it should be trivial to do so. (Disclaimer: I've only had management experience with PHPBB, as far as forum software goes.) Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Lao ... as in.... the admin post the image set for the emoticons publically, those interested make add ons, and we accept the best and the case is closed and everybody is happy. *wonders if there IS no image set for these, and what we have, we have as separate images.* ... grr, now I'm confusing myself. {EDIT, as I see Robin added a few smileys to his post:} No ..... not those kind of smileys. I mean... I think I can make ones that look just like ours: :) :( :w00t: .... and add more faces. But I might be able to do ones like that... I'll see. I'm going to go experiment, see if I can do this in GIMP. Quote
Laogeodritt Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Oh, kay. The way you worded it, I thought you were referring to technical limitations. Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Heres onnnneee....... wait... nevermind. My site SUCKS... uploading and hotlinking is so inconsistent... *tries again* Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 We hold our smilies to quite high graphical standards, so as a consequence we don't accept suggestions for new ones which aren't quite as pretty or don't fit in with the general aesthetic feel. Stylistically, they are based on Invision Power Board's set of smilies, which was the forum software we used to run before migrating to vBulletin. If someone submits a suggestion which is high quality and matches our existing set's aesthetics, we will be happy to add it to the system. Unfortunately, the image being offered here doesn't meet those requirements, although we are of course grateful for the thought. EDIT: Although the one above does. Might just touch up the mouth in GIMP, but other than that it looks very good. I'll try to sort out the glare/dry/whistling/musicwhistle issue tomorrow when I have time. I'm thinking, if it is possible, add the following::-S :-\ :-| :-] XD Can I just ask, are you requesting we associate those character combinations with existing smilies, or are you asking for completely new ones to be added? Quote
Laogeodritt Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 "XD"? As a graphical emoticon? Blasphemy! (I hate most basic graphical emoticons. Some of them—like the Firefox-loving-IE-rejecting one and the Jedi one, are interesting though limited in scope, but not basic ones like =), =(, =D, etc.) Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I've now added "iffy". [noparse]:iffy:[/noparse] = :iffy: I think I actually agree with Laogeodritt in that it might be wisest to reserve character combinations associated with non-graphical emoticons. Quote
Laogeodritt Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Trying to help Enigmus with his server problems. Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Test.... :iffy: WHOA.... I did not expect you to do that so quickly. I'm .... flattered and astounded. EDIT: Made another. Hope you're happy, Jair. I have reason to believe using the IMG tag isn't working here, so here's the link: Nevermind. Me - 0. Server issues - 2. EDIT: GOT IT! EDIT.... nope. =[ I ****ing give up. eSnips it is. :stoicjedi: Should be :stoicsith: I'll start working on a smiley jammin' to some headphones. In the meantime, any other suggestions? Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Maybe this will keep Robin happy... :phones: anyone? (Mike, can you see it?) Quote
Laogeodritt Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Enigmus, I seriously think the problem is your computer/internet connection/browser. So far, I haven't had any problem whatsoever with the images you've linked or inlined. Also: The image URI you used leads to a page entitled: "Please log into your eSnips account." Quote
JairCrawford Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 Enigmus, how did you do that? Nice Sith! Much better than my attempt. Can we add it Mike? (Enigmus's Version?) Oh and Enigmus, darken the yellow some, because naturally the hood would shade the face. ;) (And don't forget to make the eyes Sulfur Yellow.) Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I don't see a stoic Sith anywhere on this page. The byethost9.com link looks to be dead and eSnips prompts me to log in when I follow the link provided (they likely forbid direct linking to content). Why not just attach it to a post? Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Because I don't have enough upload space left here on YC. I changed it a little... any better? Hard to make the eyes any lighter, they tend to disappear. And I really don't feel like changing it anymore, it's too much work. Updated above, and here it is here: link if you don't see it: stoicsith - eSnips, share anything Can you see it now, Mike? I deleted it on eSnips to replace it just as you viewed the thread. Did you see the headphones one up there, or was that missing too? Quote

It's up about four posts above this one Mike. EDIT : Actually, now it's right above this one. Nice Enigmus! ;) Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I assume one needs to be logged into eSnips in order to view the image, because I still see nothing. How about ImageShack? P.S. You must be very short on free attachment space if there isn't enough room to upload a smilie...either that, or the smilie is huge size-wise. Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 You're right, I do have enough room, I have about two pixels of green bar left on the attachment quota. :ermm: I don't understand how Jair can see it and you can't... *scratches head* Well, here are the two: Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hmmm...I know I'm a pedant, but would it be possible for you to anti-alias the Sith's edges? Looks a tad spikey. You should be able to do this relatively painlessly by lightly using the blur tool. I'd do it myself, but I only have GIMP, in which my animated GIF expertise are distinctly lacking (well, non-existent). Quote
