James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I was wondering if this might be of a little help to newer members. I've seen it on other forums, and was wondering if it could be done here - that in the list of online users at the bottom of the forum index the mods and admins and any other staff be highlighted a certain colour to stand out from the standard run-of-the-mill users like myself. Sound like a good idea? Stupid? Thoughtful? Pointless? Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I've seen this on other sites as well, but I can't see a practical use for it. Might there be one? Easier for users to contact an online staff member, perhaps? Quote
James H. Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 That's exactly what I had in mind, especially with less experienced members who aren't familiar with the staff here as well as those that have "been around." Quote
Saiming Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 James has a point. This forum is growing, it is not so obvious for a newcomer to know who the staff is. Of course, there is the staff list but maybe it could be 'tricky' to find. Quote
Mike Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 OK, done this now...you will need to press F5 (or perhaps even CTRL + F5) in order to observe the changes. I've only accounted for Administrators and Moderators since I had a hard enough time coming up with just two different yet inoffensive colours, letalone four (colour is not my fort Quote
Saiming Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 The colour green should work in any of the styles, preferably a darker green. Quote
Mike Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Thanks - seems to work OK. I've applied that to the Editors group. Reviewers are going to be a bit more complicated anyway, due to the manner in which the accounts are set up, but how about a dark blue? Or would that clash with the rotting peach? :D Actually, how about the purple which is dotted around on the various buttons? As an aside, I think it would be far easier to accept that no combination of colours is going to go with every theme on offer... Quote
Saiming Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Purple would be lovely :D It will not be too dark to read in the darker styles and will not stick out too much in the brighter ones :) Quote
robinjessome Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Reviewers are gonna be purple?! :hmmm: HAHAHA...I kid, I kid. Purple will suffice. Quote
Mike Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 You may be Tinky Winky, Robin, but I'm Po, and editors are Dipsy. Moderators are close to being Laa-Laa: they possess the appearance of having been put through the wash with a bunch of dark clothing. Thanks to Wikipedia for helping to sidetrack things there. ;) Anyway, all done now. The online list looks kind of pretty, actually. Quote
robinjessome Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Anyway, all done now. The online list looks kind of pretty, actually. I agree, nice work! Quote
James H. Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 Hmmm... wouldn't it make more sense to press F5 to hide the staff highlights? New members would have no idea the option is there if it isn't there for them already. Get my point? On another note, it looks awesome! *claps* Quote
Mike Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 The purpose of F5 is to properly refresh a certain aspect of page so your browser displays the new colours. ;) Quote
Saiming Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 [insert applaud smilie] [insert worship simlie] James, more smilies  Quote
James H. Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 You know, I WAS looking for a clapping smiley, but I couldn't find one. :( The other.... ... Got ya, Mike, didn't realise that, I thought you made it a "key with a function". XD .... here: Not sure we really need to add those two, though... when we can just link to them like I did. :iffy: Quote
Dirk Gently Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 , I love how "rotting peach" is the unofficial/kind of official name for our default theme :P. Quote

Mark Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I do not have the link :iffy: You could find it by clicking quote, then extracting the url from his post ;) Quote
Saiming Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 You could find it by clicking quote, then extracting the url from his post ;) Yes, I know. I just do not want to bookmark each smilie that I find good  Quote
James H. Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Maybe I'll make a page of all the good ones... *thinks about it* Okay here, I made one page you can bookmark with all the smilies you should need. J4's Collection of Emoticons Quote
Saiming Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I do not know how to insert them to the forum :iffy: Quote
James H. Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 I added a mini how-to of sorts. Any better for you? What browser do you run? J4's Collection of Emoticons Quote
James H. Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 on our neato "Total members that have visited the forum today:" list, I randomly noticed all the mods and reviewers and other staff where all highlighted/bolded/coloured... except flint-wwrr. Not sure why, but he was in plain text. Anyways, not really important, but I just thought I'd point that out since I'm such a picky bastard anyhows. Quote
Guest Leigh Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I noticed that too... You may be Tinky Winky, Robin, but I'm Po, and editors are Dipsy. Moderators are close to being Laa-Laa: they possess the appearance of having been put through the wash with a bunch of dark clothing. HAHAHA really old post, but I just now noticed it... so disturbing that you know all of the names, Mike  Quote
