all the things you are Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 A couple of songs on poems by Blake (I just finished the Sick Rose some days ago) and Wordsworth. It's being fun, I'll post them when I get tired of the thing. Quote
Si... Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I'm 14 bars into a very (over)ambitious symphony, which I keep adding to every day. The fourteen bars are pretty crammed full of notes so progress is slow. I'm also currently gathering ideas for an extended 'fantasie' type thing for a rock trio (Guitar, Bass, Drums) or possibly quartet (add an extra guitar). It's supposed to be the musical equivalent of a 'train of thought', where one idea flows naturally into the next. I just recently finished a "prelude and fugue" for "one or two electric guitars and bass guitar, and a Fughetta for Violin, Piano and Bass guitar (as you've probably guessed, I like the bass guitar). I was previously working on a neoclassical piano Sonata (which was just supposed to be proof to myself that I could actually finish a composition, so I set a very easy task), plus a Fugue using the famous Paganini theme (24th Caprice) as subject, but I scrapped these two because I lost a lot of interest in them. dubbleD Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 finding names for my compositions, all piano solos, -_-...i have currently 3 unnamed and its anoying...wait thats actually 4 unnamed >.< aaargghhh!!! actually...i need to complete all the half done ones (around 4 or 5) and find names for 3 and write more. all i want to do is compose more solo piano XD.... composerorganist Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Finishing a set of clarinet variations using some extended techniques. Started a Mass - Kyrie is done (short one less than 1.5 minutes). It may be more a Missa Brevis to use for Advent or Lent. Tons and tons of ideas for future compositions. Also, need to do some serious study of fugue to reenergize my counterpoint study. Want to take an orchestration class at school either this year or next. Also would be interested in taking some lessons from the more experienced composers here at YC in the meantime. So anyone interested in working with me let me know! Quote
Mitchell Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I just finished something (and posted it here ;)) so I probably will go without even opening NWC for the next very long time. Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 3 things A 8-piece with a working title of Oh My God, a pD patch to improvise within parameters based in Indian music, and just started on the conceptual work on a piece that uses noise-canceling from placed speakers to give each person in the room a slightly different experience of the piece, which itself is obscured by a layer of skronk... Quote
jujimufu Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Just finished DOFTS' piece, working on a whole new notation system for piano playing (which I tried with a great pianist back in July and worked way better than I expected), writing a trombone solo piece for a friend of mine, a solo oboe piece for another friend of mine, a piece for a string duo competition, a piece for solo viola and a piece for robin's Blunt project (which I have to start at some point..). And I'm on holiday which means I probably won't finish any of these until a couple of days before I have to. Or after. Quote
redsaxophone Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 a symphony Part 1 Allegro, Minuetto Part 2 Adagio I, Scherzo (*Yes Minuetto and Scherzo) Part 3 Adagio II, Rondo-Finale. Flint Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Now working on an Oboe Concerto (oboe/english horn & piano). After that, I'll orchestrate it for full orchestra. Quote
NerdOfTheYear Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 What is your concept with "10 storeys"? Have you seen the movie Gabriel? The sorta-recent one??? Not that great a movie, but the closing image of the movie is this guy falling backwards over a 10 story building, just hanging in freefall. Basically with 10 Storey Drop, the opening track is a 10/8 slow guitary riff, called Before The Fall, where Adam, the main character (somehow, when i name a character like that, i just know it will evolve into somekind of 20 singer rock opera... :S) is looking at his life and weighing the pros and cons of ending it all. At the end of the track he takes the plunge, and we start on the 10 Stories/Storeys that make up his "fall from grace". As he falls, he sees into the window of 10 of the apartements in the building, the first one being his own messed up, squalor of an apartement which convinces him that jumping is the right move, as well as the next apartement, in which he sees a drug dealer abusing his girlfriend, who adam only knew by face value... anyway the album goes on with a bunch of other stories which basically sort out adams life, but it all gets a bit hazy here as i haven't finished writing all the music/lyrics or the big ending of the album yet, but thats sorta the general idea of it all :D Quote
nikolas Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Just finished scoring the computer game "Diamond in the rough" by Atropos Studios: Nothing adventured, nothing gained (yay! SPAM!) Now I'm working on another computer game at xii games innovative freeware adventure games for everyone! :D (yay! SPAM! hehehehehe!) Now I'm working on a very special indeed work for solo piano (<-solo) to be performed by as many people as possible through the Internet, online and then send all performance files to me! It sounds lame but I really can't share any details... :) This is done and it's been posted on the MW forum! ;) I also have a comission about a choir piece, but I've not even started yet. This is also done but I haven't posted it. Not until I get a recording! ;) Oh! and have a comission for a string orchestra piece, for Fall 2008, which I've certainly not started yet! hihi! And this is what I'm working on right now!I also have plans for another 2 pieces, but these would take at least 7 months to finish! BeyondMoonlight Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I started sorting out an ignorant piece I wrote for piano quite a while ago when I was clicking around on a crappy little MIDI sequencers, putting notes down etc and thinking it sounded good. I'm just organising it as it does sound good...LOL. Also doing sort of a quartet rendition of something I wrote a few months ago. (Originally as a rock-like song, it was written). Other than that...nothing much Quote
NerdOfTheYear Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Sounds creative Thanks :D The problem is often execution... i had another concept album going called Tokyo 2040, but i never finished it off to my satisfaction, so its still sitting in the tube... and i hope that doesnt happen to this one. Nirvana69 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Let's see... currently... Two pieces in actual working. One for solo piano. Probably one of the more dissonant things that I've tried writing. It actually makes use of a (psuedo) tone row. *gasp* The other is a concept piece for entire orchestra which may or may not turn into an entire full-blown suite. Whee! Quote
Carlly Clabby Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Well, I'm composing eight band pieces (I count the symphony as four pieces instead of just the one): Symphony No. 1, The Dark Years for Symphonic Band Unforgotten for Wind Ensemble The Furious Host for Symphonic Band A Powerful Movement for Wind Ensemble Battle of the Epic for Symphonic Band Along with possibly a few chamber works here and there. Maybe a concerto or just a solo for piano. Peace, C.L. Winston:toothygrin: Quote
Jackson Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Oh man, this one piece. I was doing this for almost 5 hours last night. It's a full symphony orchestra piece, and I finished the most of it at 4:30 in the morning, so it's very rough (no markings, etc.). I'm very happy with it's outcome, though, especially since I do not write a whole lot of full orchestra pieces. Quote
James H. Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hmm, well lets' see... my "unfinished" list runs about 100 items strong... among them a tuba sonata (rondo half-done, anyways), opening to a tuba concerto, horn concerto, clarinet concerto, brass quintet, three piano pieces, piece for theremin and piano, a waltz for orchestra in pi/4 time ("The Irrational Waltz"), random orchestra piece that reminds me of Copland, another random orchestra piece that starts with a harp solo that I've yet to find material to complement... and probably loads more stuff, including a handful of Depictions of Persons that I never fully completed, but those are a few years old. MAN, time really flew. :veryunsure: Oh yeah, and I have a Mozart/Haydn-esque symphony on my To-Do list. Not sure when I'll actually come up with the material for it, but I've felt like doing one lately. Quote
NerdOfTheYear Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 What genre of music do you make use of? I write jsut about anything, but mostly metal... love the sounds of heavy music :D most of my longer dedicated concepts are metal... as to what type, that changes all the time, and i do just about everything except black metal. DrPangloss Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Two projects I'm trying to bring full-steam ahead, one of which is more difficult because it's a collaboration. The first is a song cycle (or perhaps an album) of songs based on Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River poems. I've been working on a few, and finished one called "All These Peaks Are Poems," which will be the finale. The other more difficult project is that I'm collaborating with some dancer friends on creating a new ballet. I can't give many details, except that it will be based on Greek mythology and it will not be your ordinary ballet. I'm very excited for this one, partly because it's going to be really challenging. Guest thatguy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I'm working on paying off my loan in c minor Quote
Plutokat Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I just got a commission to put some text to music but it is turning out to be harder than I had originally thought. Quote
