Mike
We were down for over two hours today. I'm not yet sure what caused the problem, but it may be possible that we've lost a couple of posts from a few hours ago. I'll update this thread when I know more. Marius
Nice, guys...nice. I noticed the downtime, but I figured you were implementing some awesome new YC-Breakfast-Making module or something. That'd be sweet. Anyhow, I hope nothing major was lost or damaged. *sticks large website-worthy bandaid on YC*
Mike
OK, unless anyone can remember posting anything prior to the period of inaccessibility and point to it not being there now, there is no reason to assume any data was lost. The reason I added that disclaimer was because the data table which stores posts had crashed during the blackout and I had to repair it. However, the host has offered a plausible explanation as to why this could have occurred, and taken steps to prevent it in future, so I think there's nothing to worry about. :)
Guest DOFTS
Just wondering, what explanation would that be.
Mike
The temp directory became full, which meant that the database server gradually lost the ability to execute certain commands (starting with the most major). Since each failed command resulted in a process hanging, it eventually shut itself down altogether because it decided that there were too many connections open. Fascinating, I'm sure. :P
James H.
... sounds like something that would occur on the space station... :ermm:

Marius
And I got my hopes up today too; we had a brief, 5-10 minute crash this afternoon too. Still no Breakfast-Making module for Marius :(
