The position has been filled.

Essence of War is a project i started in December 2006 with a friend of mine, which has been in preproduction for quite a while, but is now slowly turning into an actual game.

This is a screenshot which doesn't really show interesting stuff, but the game's getting near to having more content. It's a very early build, but it already has:

-Procedurally generated forests (which means huge, (to be) detailed forests without huge disk space requirements)

-Bone animated player models

-Network support (seeing others walk around and chat, sorry this is not in the screenshot)

The game is sort of an online castle simulator with various RPG and RTS element, email me for more information.

It will be for the pc only. I have no plans to release it commercially (at least that's not how the project started). Therefor there shall be no compensation, only credits.

The music we need are for example background music, a theme song, and event music.

The music format used in the game will be mp3.

The team consists of:

Michel(me) - programming & project leader

Paulius - art (models, animation, textures etc.)

Martin - game design, various

The progress we have already made are:

A lot of preproduction, including loads of concept art, actual in-game art, several thousands (if not tens of thousands) lines of code for both the server and the client program, and a design document cosisting of 20+ pages.

Progress we are planning to make next month:

Martin will be remaking the design document into a more stuctured document, making content for our upcoming website, and doing several other small things.

Paulius will be just making more art, as always. He is currently working on rigging and animating our horse model, what he will be doing next month is unclear, he is still way ahead of me anyway.

I will be working on an inventory system (which I am working on right now), horseriding, an admin CP, several things to the server which only I understand anyway (no offense), armor&weapons system, and several other things.

This might seem a lot, but we have achieved so much more last month, we will probably be done with this in 2 weeks or so.

Previous experience:

Me and Paulius have been working on projects together for maybe 4 years now, and after some smaller projects we never finished (they weren't meant to be), we eventually ended up with this (more) serious project.

Who we are looking for:

Someone able to compose music, preferably orchestral game music. Preferably a hobbyist composer who likes to work with other peope, but most importantly, likes to compose / produce music.

If you're interested, let me know (preferably by email), and if possible, send an example of what you can do (filetype doesn't really matter, neither does the style).

Cheers,

Michel

Hey there, Michel!

First off, thanks for coming to our community for help; I'm sure you'll find lots of eager talent around here waiting for an opportunity just like this.

In case no one else does though, I feel I should ask you some further questions about the project so I'll just list off the first things that come to mind:

-First off, what exactly is it? The screenshot seems to suggest a Neverwinter Nights-style RPG of some sort.

-If so, is it going to be PC-only?

-Are you planning to release it commercially?

-Along that line of thinking, what kind of compensation should a composer expect? Is this a charity project or will you be paying?

-How much music are you expecting and what kind?

-If it's fully orchestrated material, what kind of realism and sound quality are you expecting? You've asked for examples of anything in any format, but I'm hoping you're not quite that vague about what you want for the actual game.

-You started the project 2 years ago and you've shown us a single screenshot so far; what kind of progress has been made and what kind of schedule are you working towards: are you planning to release any time soon?

Anyway, that's enough for now but you get the idea of the kind of information a prospective composer will be interested in. I'm certain you'll find someone to help you, but it would be in your best interest to answer some of these questions.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in continuing with your project!

Yeah, I'll change it in my first post, thanks.

I write videogame quite alot and I've been looking for a real project to work on for some time. Money isn't important as long as I can get some experience and credibility. But I'm not sure if my style is what you're looking for but I'm always willing to broaden my style. Here is a link to my music: Music page of Guitarplayer52 - MP3 music page on SoundClick

I emailed you, I really liked your music examples. We'll talk more on msn :)
