blueygh2 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Hello. I have found part of the score of a violin concerto (violin and piano) by some unknown composer. The second movement is an "Andante Cantabile" in B flat major (or eventually G minor...) The third movement (Finale) is an "Allegretto alla Russ.", and I don't know exactly what it means. Searching for it didn't give any results. It begins with B flat in the key. Musipedia doesn't know it either. I guess nobody knows what it might be, but any help would be appreciated. Quote
spherenine Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 It's probably just short for Russian or something. Y'know, like Rondo alla Turca. Quote
jujimufu Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Could you possibly write some of it in finale and post it here (like, the first themes of each of the movements, or the opening lines of each of the movements). That'd be very helpful :) Also, the publishing house/company name could be useful, as we can see which composers have been published under which publishing house (and you can also search items by plate number in some websites, which can also prove to be useful). And, of course, the style of the piece is also important: just saying "B-flat major" indicates that it could range from Vivaldi to Rachmaninoff, which is quite a long period of time :P Lastly, where did you find the score? This might help too.. Quote
P.J. Meiser Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Alla Russ. means in a "Russian" style, whatever that means. Quote
blueygh2 Posted April 1, 2008 Author Posted April 1, 2008 Well thank you, but ... I can't find anything anywhere. I thought it could maybe be the "Solo de concerto" by Houfflack, but it isn't, I found the score for that, and the numbers on the bottom of the page don't match. Quote
