saxmajor23 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I'm a high school sax player and I'm trying to compose a song for my class's senior piece for symphonic band. In the past I've just written down a few bass lines or played something and forgotten it. I wasn't sure how or where to start, or what kind of song it should be. Right now I just have random ideas and melodies going around in my head. Does anyone have any suggestions? Quote
Gavin Gorrick Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Write a piece for sax quartet Or if you don't have that option, study some pieces that you like. Of course the real most important thing is to figure out what you want your music to sound like. Quote
pik02002 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hey there, I would also recommend listening to symphonic band pieces and get an idea of the sound that you want. then sit down and come up with a melody or harmonic basis of your piece. I actually had the privilege of writing a piece for my symphonic piece my senior year. If you ask me how I did it...i would say i don't know...i just sat down and started writing. Sometimes it just takes staring at blank staff paper for an hour before the ideas start flowing Quote
