onearmedbandit Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I want to write a piece of music which is genuinely terrifying to listen to. Fear is a very difficult emotion to stimulate through any media (I mean REAL fear, not just 'boo!' fear), but especially music. I have no idea how to do it. Any suggestions where I should start researching? Thanks. :P Quote
Mike Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Dissonance, crescendos accompanied by the pitch getting higher and higher (moving up in semitones maybe), large range of overall pitches (e.g. piccolos and double basses), atonalism, etc. Just listen to the soundtrack of a horror film. I'm sure you'll pick it up in no time. Quote
David J. Bailey Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Listen to Danny Elfman's Batman Returns soundtrack - or more specifically the "Selina Transforms" bit (Although it does have a bit more emotion in it than just raw horror elements but it's sure as hell one of the creepiest pieces I've ever listened to).
