Marius Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 This seemed like a very intriguing idea. I'm curious to know how well it actually works in practise. In any case, I figured I'd share the concept with you guys because it's kind of cool: e-Sax | Best Brass Corporation Quote
Flint Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Yeah, I've seen these and discussed them with my other saxophone-playing friends. No one's tried one yet as no one's encountered one. I live in a block house with dual-pane windows, so my neighbors can't hear me practice anyway. ;) Quote
robinjessome Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Screw practicing with it...hook the thing up to some guitar pedals!! I'm not kidding! It looks like it's from the future! Quote
Marius Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 Actually what it looks like is dirty things done with penguins...but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it's a nifty idea :) Quote
James H. Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 That'd be great for learning the instrument without actually having to make everybody around hear you in the horrible ear-wrenching process of learning. :w00t: I'd like to see models for other instruments... sadly impossible for flute, I imagine. Marius Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 Also known as the "Iron Maiden". Popular in the olden days when they used to use human beings as musical instruments. They were played with rusty spikes, mostly. Edgy sound, they say, but no recordings were made so it's hard to say. Quote
Engineered Composer Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I've seen some compositions utilizing Yamaha's Silent Brass system, and it seems that it's only a matter of time before this is capitalized. Quote

Too bad the mic SUCKS in those things. It would be nice to see a serious microphone put into the mute thingy. Plenty of us are using electronics with open horns, but it'd be WAY COOL to be able to prevent the acoustic sound and work solely with with pickup/effected sound. *considers popping open his SilentBrass mute thingy* Quote

If you can find a way to stick a different mic in there - even just a little Shure SM57, it'd be SUPER COOL!:thumbsup: Quote
