Hello,

does anyone know where I can buy good hardback study scores, mainly of classic operas by Mozart, Wagner etc.

I've found a nice scores published by Kalmus of New York, full size hardback, in the library, but looking at their website it seems they don't make study scores any more, only conductors scores, which are too expensive.

I've also seen the Eulenberg minature scores- these are nice, but some of them are paperback, which is no good for me as they don't lie open, and I would prefer full size books.

So does anywhere publish such scores.

Thanks,

Tristan.

Usually, Urtext versions of scores are better, for big scores. I don't know if they do study scores as well, although I don't see why they shouldn't. Most of the study scores I've seen in our library are Eulenberg editions.

However, your post is a bit confused, because you say you want hardback study scores, but then you say "and I would prefer full size books" (to paperback scores, that is).

Well, don't expect the hardback editions to just lie open, as the size of the study scores is usually A5/B5, and the weight on the cover is not enough to counteract the tension of the pages (the larger the book, the easier it lies open; thus smaller are more difficult to ).

Who are "they"? I may be misreading you, but Urtext is an editorial principle, not a publisher.
