nikolas Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 The range is G1 to A6. Sorry for the semi-stupid question but: G1 as in the GM where C4 is the middle C? Would it be possible to provide a tiny score (or say that G1 is the G in the bass clef 3 ledger lines under the staff... Is this the G?) In that case A6 would be 2 and 1/2 octaves higher than the middle C, so the A 4 ledger lines above the tremble clef. Isn't it nice to make things more complicated? I also plan to enter this one, just can't gurantee the quality of the audio file, since my studio is currently traveling trans Europe! :P
Zetetic Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 I'm not entirely sure I understand the question. Middle C is C4, as in this: Scientific pitch notation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Any form of notation or clef for the theremin itself is possible, provided it uses standard symbols and is explained in the score.
Zetetic Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 We've had some wonderful entries for this competition! Thank you to everyone who entered. Judging will commence shortly, with results to be announced soon afterwards. With luck a recording will have been made before the end of this summer holiday (though some rather unexpected events have meant that this may take slightly longer than was previously assumed). I can say with assurance however that judging this competition will be no means be an easy task for the panel. There are three judges, with a wide spread of musical tastes. One is a locally acclaimed composer of modern choral and orchestral repertoire, and the other two are the performers.
James H. Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I apologize that I wasn't able to get an entry in on time, I really wanted to. I'm still working on my piece, I'd like to finish it on my own eventually, but it's slow work, unfortunately.
Zetetic Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 That's no problem - it would still be wonderful if you completed it.
Zetetic Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 A note to all entrants: There may be some delays to judging, as I've come down with the flu. The three judges (myself included) aim to have come to a decision by sometime later this week though.
Zetetic Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 I am SO sorry not to have judged this competition sooner. I have *not* forgotten about it, but a few life events have prevented my being able to announce a winner. This was also the reason for my total absence from the forum over the last month. I intend to hold true to my word to make a recording, but I daresay it will take longer than expected. The results of the competition will be announced shortly, but since I start University next week, a recording probably won't be on the agenda until nearer Christmas. Once again I apologise. All the entries received were wonderful. If no progress is made, please nag me by PM.
Zetetic Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 After much deliberation, Katy, Stephen and I have made our decisions regarding the winners of the competition. If we'd been able to announce a joint first prize, we would have done so, but in the end decided it would be unfair to guarantee two recordings when only one might prove possible. Thus, winners are as follows: First Place: RavingSpleen Runner Up: Nikolas It is my intention to Nikolas' work also over the coming year if at all possible, and hope to have finished a recording of RavingSpleen's entertaining, multiple-movement work for theremin before Christmas. Thank you ever so much to all who entered. I hope you enjoyed composing for the instrument. ~Judges' comments will follow shortly~ (Sorry for the further delay - I'm absolutely swamped by University forms - I leave on Tuesday!)
