millyway Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Hello! Ive been writing a little piece of a bigger composition but im really out of stock. Its apparently simple for me (having in mind that im a rookie in music grammar), using 4/4 and 12/8 metters. The thing is that suddenly when a weirds silences comes in they mess up all the piece, I dont know if this is well or bad written. I know this is really simple for someone who knows about this but my main weakness in music is time signature stuff. I've tried all but i dont want to have a different metter each 5 or 6 measures, i want to keep it as simple as i can. So please if someone wants to help me giving me some tips or feedback of this piece (about time signatures) Ill post the file here (Finale). I have to say also that the silences I've used is not correspondent to the metters (e.x. using a 12/8 silences in 4/4 time), but this dont matters for now im correcting that, what i care now is to fit the music in the rights time signatures. Im not interested in feedback of the general sound (for now), because this piece is not finished now all i concern is time signature. I really apreciate your help, ohh by the way the piece has around 130 measures and, I decided to stop until I fix this. Thanks! Quote
spherenine Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 I think I get what you're saying, but a score would be immensely helpful. Also, a .pdf in addition to (or in lieu of) a Finale file would be nice. But yeah, until I have a score, I can't really do too much to help. Quote
millyway Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 Ok thanks a lot. Im posting here two files, FINALE and MIDI. I couldnt save the file in PDF, my version doesnt allow me. This file was made in finale 2006. Here some trouble to explain my meaning: In ms.2 metter is lost - in ms.6 is back In ms.9 metter is lost - in ms.14 is back In ms.24 metter is lost - in ms.29 is back ms.40 lost - ms.51 back ms.56 lost - here is ms.93 i had to left an eight silence to mix it with ms.94 when main theme is developed, and must be in thge first accent. Ater all this in measures 103 - 108 - 110 the metter is sometimes lost but i dont if this is a problem. In all the piece there is accents in weak beats, this is not my intention like people believes when try to help me. Just in a few cases. No dynamics, no expressions just melody and harmony for piano. Thanks for your help! theVn.MUS theVn.MID Quote
Dead Chicken Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I am not completely sure I know what your asking. Well, all I can say is that holding a piece to a time signature that it doesn't fit is a bad thing, in my experiance. My advise is that if you know it is in a different time signature, change it. I played a piece this last year that changed every two to five bars for most of the piece, and if anything it made it easier. The main idea is that you are notating the piece. The goal is to be free of errors, and not writing it the way it is "supposed" to be is like using bad grammar or spelling words wrong in a book. So, count the beats and make the revisions you know are there. frequent tying accross measures is usually a sign of a bad signature, IMO. (those off beats might also be indicators.) hope this helped. :) PS: from what i listened to (not all of it) sounds good. PPS: messy score... Quote
millyway Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 Thanks for your help. Yes, one of my questions is that if it is fine that one metter or other are not constant through all the piece. Lets see what people can advice me. Thanks again! Quote
robinjessome Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 ...one of my questions is that if it is fine that one metter or other are not constant through all the piece. Of course it's fine to change meters...it's quite common. Quote
