almacg Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 YouTube - Cat Steven - Sad Lisa And back to some Matt Bellamy..! YouTube - Muse live in Lisbon- Time is Running Out (RIR) btw MatthewSchwarz, do you find any of Muse's work to be a tad.... Rachmaninovy? I'm pretty sure the piano bit in the middle of Butterflies and Hurricanes is a take on Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto, and many of his progressions sound like they could have been conceived of by Rachmaninov himself. Regardless, he's a great songwriter and musician! Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 No, there isn't. He's made that quite clear. Now drop it. Quote
PianoBeast10489 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Man, there's truly so much great popular music out there outside of the "formulaic" stuff that everyone gets so pissy about. I mean, John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Jack Johnson... then you've got the classics: The Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John, Boston, YES, Steely Dan, The Doors. So much great stuff. Nickel Creek, Bela Fleck - the list goes on and on... :) Quote
nikolas Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 YouTube - Billy Joel - Piano Man Of course Billy Joel! Queen (and how simple this seems, huh? :D) But the most important part of my post: Details on how to OFFICIALLY ignore Giancula 1. Click on his profile name, choose "user profile" 2. Click on "put blah blah into ignore list" 3. Click on save! 4. Enjoy a life without bullshit! I did it and it simply hides whatever giancula says and he can't PM me, or I can't PM him. Should I chose to see his posts, I can, by clicking "view post", but I don't want to. Should I want, I could remove him from my ignore list, but I won't. ;) Quote
MatthewSchwartz Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 btw MatthewSchwarz, do you find any of Muse's work to be a tad.... Oh, the Rachmaninoff influence in definitely there. But the piano cadenza in B&H seems more reminiscent of the conclusion of the Rach 3 - both are even in the same key (D major). They certainly communicate the same atmosphere of majestic late Romanticism. As for the 2nd piano concerto, Space Dementia is definitely the song that shows the most obvious influence. The chromatically dynamic chorus is a musical reference to a similar part in the beginning of the concerto's first movement. Anyways, here are some dandy piano videos: I encourage everyone to watch these videos. :D Quote
almacg Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 No it was in reference to a reply I made to Gianluca. Btw, the 2nd bit of the video 'the piano master' 0:38 is from butterflies and hurricanes right? In the actual track I'm pretty sure the strings are playing Rach's 2nd concerto, 3rd movement. I would love to hear Matt Bellamy write an actual piano concerto. Maybe in the future when he's done with Muse he might give it a go? btw I just edited, it's not the 2nd movement of Rach 2 but the 3rd. Quote
SSC Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 no closing this thread omg :< It's made of pure win! Beck FTW, btw. And some Chico Buarque, also for the win. YouTube - Chico Buarque - Constru Quote

P.J. Meiser Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I fsking lurve Muse too. There is a B-side that's called "Matt's Concerto," but it's merely a solo piece that was probably improvised. He's still a god at piano, especially for a "pop" musician. Quote

P.J. Meiser Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Maybe... It was on a "unofficial compilation" that I... acquired... :shifty: but that's what it's called in the mp3 tag. Quote

Nirvana69 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 ... Just wow. *cough* The Nine Inch Nails version was much better. *cough* Quote
SSC Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 *cough* The Nine Inch Nails version was much better. *cough* Haha, I can't listen to the NiN one at all. To whiny. Cash totally owns the damn song. Quote
MatthewSchwartz Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Cash would sound whiny too if only he had a higher pitched voice. :/ The lyrics are pretty much identical, so as far as I'm concerned, they're equally whiny. :p Quote
SSC Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Well, I'd say Cash's voice in this is just amazing. Even if he was, uh, almost dead. I think that's why it's so cool, and the fact that the lyrics work so well with his old old rusty voice. The NiN version just sounds whine whine, but his actually give depth to the lyrics by virtue of his, well, age. I don't know how to explain it but if you don't see it there's not much I can do lol. Christopher Dunn-Rankin Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Well spoken QCC... Gianluca's on my lengthy list of people to be promptly ignored!Rolling right along: Bj Quote

I see it, but I'm just sayin' that Trent Reznor's voice should give depth to the lyrics by virtue of the fact that he's the one who wrote them. ;) Quote
