Jubilee Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 There seems to be a database error that occurs from time to time. It kicks everyone off line. What's going on? Quote
James H. Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I PM'd Mike about a Database error. He just said it's been something that's going on lately at regular intervals and contacted some people from above to look into it. :shifty: I didn't get kicked off when it happened to me, though. Quote
Jubilee Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 After it happens, I look at the member list and it drops from 20+ down to just me and maybe one or two more people. Quote
Mike Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 It's been happening every morning inside the same 3-5 minute window for about the past week. Our host has yet to squish the problem, but they probably will eventually. (I certainly hope they do, in order to prevent my mailbox from being filled with 20-40 error reports on a daily basis...) Being "kicked off" is likely attributable to the server restarting, which would have the effect of erasing all active sessions. That should only have happened yesterday when our host did something that would have necessitated a restart - please shout if it happens again. Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Hmm... thread-cycle. I've been having this "problem" for a while: whevener I log on (home, school, penitentiary, etc), after I hit enter after typing in my password, the forum gives me the "thank you for logging in/redirect screen" and the next page that comes up is always the non-user, unlogged in forum home page. I also tend to stay in this un-logged in state for a few pages before it recognizes that I have logged in. Is this normal? What causes this? Anyone else have this? Quote
Daniel Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I also found a weird error, but probably doesn't cause anyone any grief. I click View New Posts, and while that is loading I click the Pager Messages, to bring that up while VNP is loading; for some reason, clicking Pager Messages sends the browser back to the forum index, or stops VNP from loading. This probably affects any YC page you're going to. I'm on Firefox 3, by the way. Quote

There's some code inside the pager which aims to check that its containing window is indeed the pager window, and was created by another window. If these conditions aren't met for any reason, you'll be redirected to the forum index. I would guess opening the pager while the current page was loading might have caused the issue - I've experienced it from time to time myself, it's not a major problem though. Quote
Mike Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I have been advised by our host that they will be performing maintenance on our server tomorrow between the hours of 4 and 7 AM EST. Up to 15 minutes of downtime is projected to occur, so if you get any more database errors (or can't even open a connection to the site) during that period, you'll know why. :) Quote
