Marius Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Hi everyone, No, don't get too excited, I'm not leaving for long, but I figured I should give some indication that I'm gone in case anyone is looking for me during the next month. I will be in Romania in a very very out-of-the-way area for the month of July, so any and all attempts to contact me will be more or less futile. If you really need me for something, leave me an email or bug Hillary to transmit the message - she'll know how to find me. In any event, I leave tomorrow and I won't be back until the first week of August, so until then I bid you all a fond farewell and I wish you the best of summers. Take care of yourselves, keep up the creativity, and try not to fight too much amongst yourselves for petty reasons. Bye for now! :w00t: Quote
Nirvana69 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Have to say, when I saw the thread title, I was like *sigh* "Not another one". Then, seeing it was you, I thought to myself O_O "Nooo..." But glad to see your post turned out to be pleasant, level-headed, and functional. Have fun in Romania. :) Quote

Keep an eye out for my friend Gavin who'll be in Romania the same time as you. He is insane and wears a hat :) See you in a month or so. Quote
Guest DOFTS Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Of course most oldies know M4 disappears for a month around this time. We assumed he went on a month long mating spree. Now that we confirmed that rumor, we shall let him mate in peace. Quote
robinjessome Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 He is insane and wears a hat This describes roughly 70% of the Romanian population ;) ...30% are hatless. :shifty: Quote
James H. Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 He's looking at you. With his hat. Bunch of random Romanians Marius probably knows: Guess what? HATS. Quote
oboeducky Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 This romanian doesn't seem to be wearing a hat. :eyebrow: :whistling: HA. You've been gay'd! Quote
RavingSpleen Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 That's because he's bending over to pick it up. Or he's just...bending over...:glare: Quote
Marius Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 Thanks for the well-wishes and amusing topic hijacks guys. I'm back, as of today, and it's good to be back, so I shall see you all around the forums as usual. With my hat. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 You were gone so long, I'm surprised you still speak English. Welcome home. Quote
Marius Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 No, the name of this thread is no longer accurate. It's not a temporary farewell this time. I've been a member for almost 4 years now, and it's time for me to call it quits. I've been around long enough to know that no one needs a brand new thread just for a goodbye, so I'm just re-purposing this one. I've watched a lot of people come and go over the years, and I've noticed a terrible trend. Some really amazing people have been taken away from this community — either by force or by sheer incompatibility with the direction the community's taken. Some names will be familiar, others less so for the newer folks, but all were significant and wonderful members: Cavatina, Humnab, Marisa, Chris Shaver, CaltechViolist, David, Anders, Spook (spc1st), Evan, Nico, James (Enigmus), Mark, Hillary (bob stole my cookie)...these people didn't leave because they didn't like the colour scheme. Do we really need another argument over the semantics of religion? Is the significance of tonality really worth getting worked up about with people who could be friends? Does anyone really give a scraggy about swearing in the real world — let alone here on the internet? Somewhere along the line, YC became less about constructive assistance and more about shameless self-promotion, dick-waving discourse, and retardedly petty arguments. Life's too short for that and I can't bring myself to dedicate more time and effort being part of a community that no longer upholds the basic values that attracted me to it in the first place. Water under the bridge, I know, but I'm putting this down so you know that I'm not leaving because "life is busy" or because "I can't manage to stay away" or whatever other idiotic reasons I've seen cropping up — I'm leaving because my internet home of four years is turning down a path that I'm not inclined to follow. So this is my stop, folks; I'm getting off. Godspeed to you all. Quote
Globutron Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I do agree with it, Even in the few months i've been on here (joined a couple of years ago but didn't stick around), It's kinda gone down hill. But I just happily observe. I don't expect to be here after graduation either. Life will change dramatically at that point. I'll keep in touch with you Marius, I'm curious to see your progress =D Quote
Saiming Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Best of luck Marius. I fully agree with you, YC has changed and it is for the worse. It is no longer the same. I has been a pleasure knowing you over these past years. Good luck with your studies :D Godspeed to you Marius. Quote
chopin Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I've watched a lot of people come and go over the years, and I've noticed a terrible trend. I am sorry to hear this. Because of the stated reasons mentioned above (and others feeling the same way as you) the team has recently adopted a few new policies that we will be enforcing more proactively moving forward, and Jen will be presenting it soon. However, I just want to make it clear to everyone, that the above quote isn't 100% accurate. Some people mentioned in this list were permanently banned due to inappropriate behavior (but we are effectively changing this rule, where there will not be permanent bans any longer, just probation periods). The reason for the bans are simple, we are trying to keep this place user friendly. But this isn't always that easy. Also, some people mentioned above left temporarily because of personal reasons or because of school, and have personally responded to me that they will come back. I do try to ask most prominent members why they left, and if there is anything we can do to make YC a better place. So cases like this help us. Quote
Saiming Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 There is no need for me to create a new thread either. I am also going to leave, this forum has changed for the worse. So many people, as Marius stated, have left and just intolerable gits have been over flowing this dear forum. The peaceful days are over, and not just stupid arguments about religion and John Cage dictate the forums. I am sick of it; I am leaving. Godspeed everyone, apart from Snorlax Joe and the other annoying people. Quote
Guest Cursive Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 M4 basically stated what I said 2 years ago. Maybe I can find that thread, but it doesn't matter. This place isn't what it used to and it never will be again. Quote

Mark Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Can't believe I missed all the fun, was in Andersland, and I'm not sure if they have computers there. Screenshots, anyone? Quote
