Bottom line, you guys are not using this site to your full advantage. So I felt like I should type up a little motivational speech for you.

Very soon, we are adding a music management system that works pretty much like soundclick. So, that will be one way to help promote your music. On top of that, do you guys realize you have the power to promote your music, other than using the forum? Well you do, and listen up!

Check out my own page here: My Personal Page

Thats right, this is my own personal page I created using the wiki. You guys can do the same thing! You can write your own biography, and organize your music on your personal page, and link your pieces to the discussions. You will also be found on Google if you type your page correctly. I will personally look at every page to make sure it conforms to the rules, (everything in 3rd person) and to help optimize your page. Oh yeah, this site is very search engine friendly, why don't you take advantage of the power, and of the fact I am letting you guys use this power?

If you organize all of your music links on this page, you can direct people to different parts of your threads, threads that may be long forgotten. I am giving you the opportunity to remind those who forgot about your threads, or who never responded.

I am also encouraging you guys to put your created personal pages in your signatures. Although we do not allow external links in signatures, we will allow these internal links to your personal homepage within this site, because it will help promote you as a composer within this community. You may also remind people of your personal page when you type a thread, or would like people to check out your collection.

If you go here, Write Articles and type in your name in the box and click submit, you are taken to an edit page. Here is where you can get started. If you are unsure of how to use the wiki, read my tutorial which is located at the above link. Make sure you type your profile in 3rd person. No "I" is allowed. I would like everyone to follow a single format, for example, take a look at my personal page. It isn't imperative, and it obviously doesn't have to be exactly like my page (we all have different interests) but if we all follow the same kind of format structure, it gives this site a sense of professionalism and conformity, and makes it easier for new members who aren't so creative with formatting, to type up their own page (they will just copy our single format). I highly recommend that you guys do NOT put your email addresses on your page due to spam. You could put the nickname you use on the forum on your page though, that wouldn't be a problem.

Any questions?

We will?

Back to the drawing board with the hyperlink removal script then. :)

Wait a bit for this, lets see if people start doing profiles first. I have a feeling its going to take some time.

Maybe I will change my mind, because not everyone will listen to this rule....so, we'll see.

I'm trying, but the part where you add pictures keeps giving me an error message. Also, none of my HTML works on here, is it not allowed or something?

Maybe mine will just not have a picture ;) haha

I don't either Mike, I was just trying to be supportive of this new addition. Yeah, I think I did it wrong too because it isn't comming up in the searches. hmmm, I will try making it as an "article" instead :P

It doesn't matter, but it probably is wiser to create your own page called "Jennifer McDaniel" so that you WILL be found on Google for your name, given a week or two. If you refer to yourself as Jennifer McDaniel a few times in the article, since your page name is also that keyphrase, Google will realize its a keyphrase. Obviously, ranking for your name isn't a huge deal, but if you practice on your name first, you will start to see the light and learn how to use YC as a useful marketing tool in the future. Now, if we could only get everyone on this forum to do this....no one here even realizes the power of this site....you guys have to help me spread the word, it's the only way.

Read the tutorial, at the very bottom:

To answer your question here, you would do something like this:

[http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/your-thread.html link title]

Again, if people start doing this, and somewhat follow my guidelines, I will personally look at every page, and help optimize the pages until you guys get the hang of it. Start promoting your profiles in your blogs, myspace entries, signatures at other forums......and before you know it, you will create more traffic to your personal page, and more people will hear your music and find your old threads.

Thanks

Yours looks much better than mine, more professional. I will try to spread the word a bit when I am chatting with people.

Yeah, that would be cool. Have it like Yahoo where you can search by age, location, hobbies, keywords, etc. That would be a good idea to create something like that.

The wiki profile is more "professional" and I will take care of linking together profiles. This must be done manually. I will put you guys in a category, called "composers" or something like that. However, the new music management system will have a buddy list system, so you can add friends to your personal "soundclick like" profile. This will take place in a few months.

Cool :D Isn't there already something like a buddy list? I see in the private message center it says "add to friends" next to the people who have PMed me. huh ......anyway, that sounds cool

Ok, for those of you who made a profile, your results are in:

Andrew

Connor

Evan

Jen

Lecco

Myself

Seann

Vanessa

Check it out. These pages already rank for your names. A useful promotional tool, eh? I wasn't lying, YC really has power, and if you know how to use it, you can help promote your music. Come on people, we need more profiles!

Chopin, I understand that the YC is a very popular site, but I have a thing against writing in the 3rd person about myself!! Unless you require it to remain a member of this site, I'd perfer to keep all information about myself on my personal web site.

Don't get me wrong, it certainly isn't required. I am just encouraging it. If you don't want to create a profile, that is your decision, I am just making it aware that the site is a good marketing tool, and the more profiles that are created, the more interesting this site will be in the future.
