For some reason I have never been

able to identify what time signature a

work is in by simply hearing it.

I am sure this is only an elementary thing

too.

Can anyone give any advice on how I

can quickly identify what the time signature

is in a piece quickly?

Well, first find a basic song and listen to it. Make sure it isn't complex or anything. Listen to the song and count the beats out loud. Most songs have a pusle so jsut follow it. Every time the pusle gets loud(naturally), that is generally the first beat. Just keep on counting the beat.
