Eftos Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 hello, three years ago i thought myspace is the absolution, since 2006 last.fm is the standard to me. the latter holds all music in the world especially the biggest names as of today. and thats its problem. if you start tagged radio you always get the stars first. besides rookie users scrobbel 24/7 to be top listener and leave unqualified shouts. the question is what comes next, and here yc could play a role. imho we need a side where popular music is reviewd by professionals and the listeners can only comment on it. if the new p-diddy single is obsolete it must be said in a neutral academic review. Ferkungamabooboo Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Dude, academia can't talk about p-Diddy. Commercial music should be left for the world of commerce. Itunes, all that stuff, simply is a business. How about actually getting people to review works on this site as it is, boosting active membership... things like that. useful things. and the fact that scrobble is a word sickens me. Quote
robinjessome Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 @ Eftos, What's your point? This ain't last.fm... Quote
Eftos Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 so you gave up fighting comercial music? we need one instance in the web who tells the truth, thats what i wanted to say. dont you find it challenging reviewing 50 cent from a academic point of view? tell how naive it is. the problem is to get the attention of the industry, so the side has to be big. we need a musicpedia where the style colum of 50 cent says "simple" and "obsolete" Quote

I originally had a lot more sarcastic things to say but seeing as I don't think this is exactly a *bad* idea, I'll give my honest opinion. I think it would be nice to have a site that does actually give real, unbiased academic reviews... only problem is there is no such thing as an unbiased music review. There will always, always, always be some sort of bias. There are NO set guidelines as to what constitutes good music. Hell, if there were a set standard, I think most composers wouldn't even bother trying to compose in the first place. I don't think it's a bad idea, just a misguided one. I think all that would really come from a site like this is reinforcing the stereotype that everyone who listens to classical music is a pretentious snob that looks down on other music. Quote

robinjessome Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 so you gave up fighting comercial [sic] music?we need one instance in the web who tells the truth, thats [sic] what i wanted to say. What's to fight about? Don't start spouting bullshit about 'truth' when you're actually discussing a highly personal and subjective opinion regarding popular musics. dont [sic] you find it challenging reviewing 50 cent from a academic point of view?tell how naive it is. Why would you do such a thing? OR, why do you find it so difficult? 50 Cent (as with most hiphop artists) has wildly advanced rhythmic sense. It's naive? Grow up...there's nothing simplistic or juvenile in ANY genre of music - only in the people who criticize blindly without any understanding of the target. the problem is to get the attention of the industry, so the side has to be big.we need a musicpedia where the style colum [sic] of 50 cent says "simple" and "obsolete" "Obsolete"? "The side has to be big"? What the hell are you talking about? ANYWAY, this constant barrage of arguments against commercial music is getting REALLY tired for me. I've made myself perfectly clear in countless other bullshit threads, and no longer have the patience to try and free the minds of ignorant young scenesters, blinded by their own self-professed 'brilliance' to actually see that their pompous posturing makes them look like narrowminded fools. :whistling: So, you want to fight pop music elitism with... classical music elitism? ...I think all that would really come from a site like this is reinforcing the stereotype that everyone who listens to classical music is a pretentious snob that looks down on other music. Well put. Quote
Eftos Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 funny, i could replace the name half a dollar with all the others and still you comment on that name. rhytmical? repetitive and boring and thats a fact. theres no room for speculation there. they have their people everywhere, even on wikipedia where a more intelligent than you and me lists their skills pseudo academic. besides, people are blinded by large numbers they fake in any media or chart, online and offline. the listener sees the big number and thinks there must be something like talent. the suggestet musikpedia must be a pain in the back of the record industry thats why it must attract lots of users. i recently read the wikipedia article of timbaland (yes, thats a name) copying 64music for his songs, to show what a nice guy he is: here's the original wikipedia reply: "It makes me laugh. The part I don't understand, the dude is trying to act like I went to his house and took it from his computer. I don't know him from a can of paint. I'm 15 years deep. That's how you attack a king? You attack moi? Come on, man. You got to come correct. You the laughing stock. People are like, 'You can't be serious.'" Quote
James H. Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 so you gave up fighting comercial music? Who? Youngcomposers.com? Since when ever DID we "fight" commercial music? Or am I completely misinterpreting your posts? Because I can hardly make heads or tails out of your arguments. we need one instance in the web who tells the truth, thats what i wanted to say. Are you asking for objective reviews and ratings on music? ... that just is not how it works, my friend... Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I think you're mixing the concepts of commercial and art music... What would be your perfect musical world? Lets start with the ubergoal and then work backwards to what you're suggesting... Quote
