Daniel Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I have an idea about the adverts on the forum. I clicked the minimise-style button on the shoutbox, which is what made me think this: What if on the forum, if you click an advert, it opens up its relevant site in another window, but the advert on the forum "minimises". Then, because everyone wants the forum to be nice and ad-free, everyone would click the ad to "minimise" it. This would end up with a really high click through rate. And of course the ad would only stay minimised for a certain period of time, so it has to be cleared again. Unless the money YC gets from the ads is based on a number of impressions or something.... Any thoughts on this? Would it be possible to code? Is there any point thinking about it? It allows the forum to be almost ad-free, and gets a high click through rate, but the advertisers might not allow it, and it might be pointless in some situations, and hard to implement. Quote
Mike Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 It would probably be possible through some means but I'm not sure what chopin would have to say about it. And I'm also not sure what Google (whose adverts we use) would have to say about it, either. Quote
