Voce Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I'm writing a piece for solo oboe, and I've come to a place where I want the performer to trill, but not immediately. I want the trill to start a beat after the note is played (it's a held note.) How do I write that? Quote
EldKatt Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I would divide it into two tied notes. Whole note with trill after a quarter becomes a quarter tied to a dotted half note with trill. Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 you don't even have to use a tie. that is what a slur is for. notes that have no slurs mean they are "tongued" (attacked) so if you use a slur, technically, the second note should not be attacked. You could help by adding an appogiatura before the trill as well. If it's a really long note, you might even insist on the "slowness" of the start of the trill by slurring together your first note, then two 8ths notes, then a triplet, THEN your trilled held note. Don't be afraid to actually WRITE what you want played. Quote
