robinjessome Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Obviously I'm down. This is right up my alley. Perhaps we can get Gavin to participate! Maybe as staff arranger?! --- [Gavin, did you ignore my post? It's not rhetorical, I do want to know why you acted like that!] Quote

Cody Loyd Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 It is a little ridiculous how consistently good this stuff is. There are a few low spots.. but considering the volume of his output, it really isn't much, at least in what I have heard so far. The Masada Book 2: Book of angels is so far probably my favorite project of his. It is varied enough to stay interesting through the 11 volumes that have so far been released, and the music is killer all the way through. I can't pick a favorite. I also picked up his newest album 'Alhambra Love Songs' Its softer jazz than sometimes, but is fantastic as well. It is fair to say that I have become a little Zorn-obsessive in the past week or so. I am sure it will wear off, but I haven't really listened to much else for about 6 days now. Quote
Cody Loyd Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 there is a new book of angels release coming out on june 16th :) Amazon.com: Stolas: The Book of Angels, Vol. 12: Masada Quintet: Music Quote
920bpm Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I'm a pretty big fan too. Been really into Forbidden Fruit lately, it's a piece he wrote for the Kronos quartet, turntablist Christian Marclay (using only records of string music) and vocalist Ohta Hiromi. Really intrigueing. Are you guys aware of this website? Hips Road Edition - The Works of John Zorn Scores of his concert works. I love the filmworks, Naked City and Masada too, got so much still to check out though.
