nigelkeay Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I've just started a new website called www.contemporaryviola.com as I am both a composer and violist. I wanted to create a website separate to my own personal one to present articles of general interest around the viola, and new music for it. The first article to be posted is "Elegiac Reaction" by Paul Groh. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 While rudimentary at this point, it's interesting. Of even greater interest than this article to me was your composition site. Some nice stuff! Quote
SSC Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I think violas are great. I like'em better than violins honestly. Quote
nigelkeay Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Many thanks for your replies. I've got plans to write an article about the viola as a solo instrument with orchestra, particularly on the issue of achieving audibility of the soloist against the orchestra. Balance always seems problematic.... Quote
nigelkeay Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 I've just added a new article to www.contemporaryviola.com written by Paul Groh. It's called NIGHT OF THE LIVING VIOLISTS and it discusses Michael Daugherty Quote
Guest Rapha Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hey, I saw you on a french website making "advertising" for your works =P Will you add a part on extended/contemporary techniques, with samples (illustration + mp3) ? Quote
nigelkeay Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 That's an excellent idea to add a part on extended/contemporary techniques. I know a viola player, Cyprien Busolini, who is particularly interested in this area of repertoire, he's just particpated on a recording with Garth Knox due to come out very soon. I'm also thinking about putting something abouts aspects of instrument design, the 5-string viola for example, of which my own luthier has made. Quote
Guest Rapha Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Ok cool ! I said that, because I wrote to a suedish flutist (Mats M Quote
nigelkeay Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 Yes, on 30th October 20h30 at the Cit Quote
Guest Rapha Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Mmmh, it's a bit far, and at night, I don't like the lign RER B. But is the concert free or must I buy some places somewhere ? ( I suppose the concert will be at the Foundation des Etats-Unis, where you are in r Quote
Qmwne235 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Hey, I just realized the article up on the website about Elegies in viola music mentions Elegy and Tango by Matt Kaner, which I believe is on this website. Quote
Guest Rapha Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Ok cool, I'll try to come if something doesn't came up in the last minute ! Quote
