I've just started a new website called www.contemporaryviola.com as I am both a composer and violist. I wanted to create a website separate to my own personal one to present articles of general interest around the viola, and new music for it. The first article to be posted is "Elegiac Reaction" by Paul Groh.

Many thanks for your replies. I've got plans to write an article about the viola as a solo instrument with orchestra, particularly on the issue of achieving audibility of the soloist against the orchestra. Balance always seems problematic....

Hey, I saw you on a french website making "advertising" for your works =P

Will you add a part on extended/contemporary techniques, with samples (illustration + mp3) ?

That's an excellent idea to add a part on extended/contemporary techniques. I know a viola player, Cyprien Busolini, who is particularly interested in this area of repertoire, he's just particpated on a recording with Garth Knox due to come out very soon. I'm also thinking about putting something abouts aspects of instrument design, the 5-string viola for example, of which my own luthier has made.
