Visuals to Accompany Your Music?

Featured Replies

For those who concern themselves with the "digital package" aspect of music (aka, you fixate more on the mp3 audio file than the written score or a live performance), do you know of any ways to make an interesting video to accompany music, other than just setting it to clips from a movie/tv show or a cycle of still pictures?

For example, I tried using a "screen camera" to record the iTunes visualizer while playing my music, but it always lagged.

I also tried syncing the music to the actual notation itself, like this:

YouTube - Requiem: Fantasia and Serenade for Piano & Strings

...but it looks kind of ugly to anyone who isn't already a composer or musician. The thumbnail pic for the video on Youtube looks horribly bland.

So, anyone have any ideas? I thought about setting the music to poetry or some other text, but that would just distract too much from the music. Plus, it's a little cheap to make program music out of music that isn't already program music.

Check out YouTube - Portal - Still Alive typography [HQ] for ideas with lyrics.

I'm sure pD could make a crazy visualiser.

Flash also provides some interesting possibilities.

I came across this example recently of score pages following the audio:

Wow, bizarre. o.O

Unfortunately I have zero flash/code ability. >_<

short of that, film stuff to go with your music, like U B U W E B - Film & Video: Standish Lawder | Corridor (though it wasn't for Terry Riley, but it's crazy nonetheless)
