I created this thread not so much as way to muse upon the meanderings of the various musical styles of the 21st century, but rather as a means to ask a fundamental question that I think most of us are dying to ask, but for reasons of shyness or ignorance have been unable to. That question is: Does tonality have meaning for anyone in the present day?

Let us remember that Nietzsche declared "God is dead." Is tonality dead? IS it? Or is it merely, like the great Alaskan Grizzly Bear, hibernating in this winter of dread and dissonance?

Is the major third an unequal or equal partner to the minor second? This question begs for an answer, begs even more than the poorest and dirtiest of beggars.

I will never abandon tonality as a means of expression - why, do you ask? Because I don't want to! HA!

No, but you don't understand! This is an entirely different question about something much more important!

"Does tonality have meaning for anyone in the present day?"

:hmmm: I don't see the difference from:

"Does tonality have purpose for anyone in the present day?" or "Does tonality have relevance for anyone in the present day?"

But, let's see how this plays out, and how quickly it deteriorates into pointless bickering. [Antiatonality, I'm looking at you!]

This is simply a matter of semantics. What you believe or don't believe is irrelevant to the terms of language and the influence of words on the thoughts being processed. Instead of trying to find similarities to your concerns, try looking beyond the first level of doubt to learn about the most important types of knowledge.

No need to look at me. I didn't make the thread and have one of my own to carry on the discussion.

I'm inclined to believe this thread is nothing more than a sarcastic misrepresentation of my activity here. I'm not all that impressed with the OP anyway, so count me out on this discussion.

No, i never even mentioned atonality. I'm saying people should roll tonality up and smoke it. That's one use it has today. Or you can use it to fix the wobbly kitchen table. Mix a bit of aloe in and rub it all over people that are terminally ill and it'll fix them right up, no matter what the illness. It is also impervious to cold, so you can use it for insulation in the winter. Oh yeah! Tonality also cures male pattern baldness, makes penises and breasts bigger, stops bullets, it saved the whales and developed fire and the wheel.

Don't forget, it also invented oxygen and hydrogen... Where would we be without it??!

I think I understand.... now I know why Bach had so many kids!

Step 1: Create thread regarding tonality's relevance

Step 2: Define tonality

Step 3: Everyone bickers

Step 4: Reword the definition to tonality

Step 5: Everyone realizes they've each been saying the same thing

Step 6: Create thread satirizing threads created regarding tonality's relevance

Repeat as needed
