Guest VisitingCellist Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I just finished listening this quartet once again. Exciting piece. I'll probably be performing it in the spring. If you're not familiar with Aldridge, then I encourage you to check out his works. Especially interesting are his new opera, Elmer Gantry (www.elmergantryopera.com) and his chamber works. You can find the 3rd movement of the quartet posted at his site, under "listen": bob aldridge Quote
Guest VisitingCellist Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I just found out we're not going to be able to perform this as I'd thought. :/ Oh, well. You should definitely give it a listen, though; it's worth it! I will, however, be performing on a recital with Aldridge's explosive "Three Folk Songs." You can get them at the same link, above. Ravels Radical Rivalry Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Oh yeah! I love this guy. I have that website bookmarked. I also have a copy of the score to Elmer Gantry at home. My mom sings and I play. Sharon's Aria is beautiful. The entire opera is incredible. The tango is also awesome. I love the solo piano stuff. I especially love the Bestfriend piece. I wonder what his legacy will be in another 100 years. Too bad that you will not be able to perform the quartet. I have not listened to that one but maybe once before. I did listen to it again since you mentioned it and it is pretty cool and exciting. I would love to hear your performance of the folks songs if it is possible for you to post a recording of it afterwards. Quote
