Composer283 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Hi, I just wanted to know what you guys think of the "Curse of the Ninth" and whether it's real or not. It's kind of an interesting topic. edit: I just have a question. Who voted that they "Definitely Believed" in the Curse of the Ninth? Quote
SSC Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 ... How COULD it be real? At all? Haydn must be spinning like a goddamn jet turbine right about now... Quote
Composer283 Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 ... How COULD it be real? At all?Haydn must be spinning like a goddamn jet turbine right about now... Actually the "Curse" started with Beethoven. Classical and baroque don't count. Just thought I'd point that out!:D Quote
Qmwne235 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Darius Milhaud. Heitor Villa-Lobos. Roy Harris. Henry Cowell. (Yes, I did get those from Wikipedia.) Quote

Salemosophy Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I see another "Red Violin" movie mock up being created in this thread... I'm always up for a little fun with superstition. Quote

chodelkovzart Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 i dont write symphonies anyways. although i do plan on writing symphonic poems...... yes, like someone else said, if the curse is true then i cant imagine how dead Haydn would be right now. Quote
Nirvana69 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 No. It can't be real on the grounds that Mahler was the one that started (or at least popularized) it and Mahler sucks. He was just envious that he only got to write nine of his MASSIVELY long symphonies into his life time. Well, actually, he got close to ten but not quite. Hahapwned. *expects Roman to come in scalloping and whining now* Quote

James H. Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I plan to write symphonies... I'm just going to REALLY gently caress up my numbering system just to screw with people. Maybe something like ... Symphony Subtitle: "Solving for A." Quote
Qmwne235 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I wish I could do that integration in my head, but the square roots throw me off. Quote

Voce Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 No. It can't be real on the grounds that Mahler was the one that started (or at least popularized) it and Mahler sucks. He was just envious that he only got to write nine of his MASSIVELY long symphonies into his life time. Well, actually, he got close to ten but not quite. The only reason Mahler couldn't get past 9 complete symphonies is that they were all so damn long and took him a long time to write. Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 The only reason Mahler couldn't get past 9 complete symphonies is that they were all so damn long and took him a long time to write. very true. around half of Mahler's symphony movements are as long as many entire 20th century symphonies. some are even longer. Exodizer Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Segerstam should be even deader than Haydn (like 2x times as dead) and hes still alive. Leif Segerstam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If this 9 thing is true then he would have to be like 23 times as dead as beethoven right now. Quote
