Exodizer Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Well it's an orchestra piece and I think I'm over using this theme (it's not a very long one either) here's what I have to far. orchestra piece.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage Quote
chodelkovzart Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 i dont think its overused. just make sure the rest of your music isnt all based on this. Quote
magyari Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 It's not repetitive. Anyway, I would change when the violin starts the theme. I would build the piece of the first staccato-theme. This fast scale is not a real useful thing, I think. I would use it for an episode, but not a main-theme. Good luck :) Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I'm going to say it's a bit repetitive. There's great power in imperfect repetition though... a bit of change is as/more powerful than a lot of it. Quote
magyari Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Hm. Then you don't know, what is repetitive music.. YouTube - Steve Reich : Different Trains ~ America Before The War #1 Let's listen to this. It's a great piece for string quartet and electronic effects. It's the same for 10 minutes! That's repetitive but not boring! His piece is not repetitive, just the theme comes with other instruments. I can say the same that I said before. :) Quote
Exodizer Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 I wasn't speaking in a minimalistic sense. I love Einstein on the Beach and it's extremely repetitive, but I was asking whether or not it worked in this scenario. Quote
magyari Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 That's OK. It will work. I just said, that I'd use the quasi-staccato theme, for maintheme, and the quasi-scale theme for an episode. From a scale, you can't write anything exiting, because where can you go out from a scale? But from a monoton staccato bass-theme... A lot of ways :) That's my opinion. Quote

The intro (first 10 seconds or so) is what you would use as the main theme? I was going to scrap that I didn't like it (or is that what your refering to as the scale theme with the flute playing the Doiran scale)? Quote

Exodizer Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Yeah I think your right gollam. That's good advice. I'm not going to use that as a theme as I don't like it, but that other melody doesn't quite work as one either. Thank you. Quote
