Nope, the license I got was the "closest" one. There is no license more strict for what I want and in fact, IMSLP (the creator), came up with an additional license (which again is not exactly enough for me).

CC is insufficient and there is A LOT of talk around about the damage that it does! Unfortunately.

Problem is that with CC you basically sign away certain rights. Copyrights? You hold ALL rights (all rights reserved). CC license? You hold the rights BUT they WILL distribute your music any way they want and they WILL adapt your work, by always crediting you. That's the one that I had on IMSLP.

Either way, this whole situation was not, probably, due to CC license leaking, otherwise I would still be discussing. But it was really worth looking into the issue. :)

Well, obviously CC is meant for sharing and distributing. But you CAN control if people can sell it or even modify it, but it's a distributing-friendly license which is VERY HELPFUL to me in many many ways, and surely many others.

If you want a regular all rights reserved copyright, uh, you shouldn't be using CC. :x

And I LOVE your new 8-bit avatar!

It's the girl from YMCK. :x

PS: Hell, they even warn against the stuff on their site:

But if you’re a musician who depends upon your music for your livelihood, you should think carefully before giving away commercial rights to your creative work. Many musicians have discovered that offering work for noncommercial use can be quite rewarding. But anything beyond that requires careful consideration. We all admire generous souls. But if you want to be generous, we want you to think carefully about it before you are.

Yep.

Ok I can see your anger, Nikolas, but I have to agree with Nightscape that you're overreacting a bit. No offense, but I'm sure you're not (yet) that important or sought-after as a composer that there's a potential possibility of companies like these making any significant profit from your music. Of course I know it's the fact that they even tried to that makes you angry, but still, what's the worst that can happen? Maybe one or two people downloading a score of yours from that site without you getting the royalties you deserve. But then, there's something to potentially gain from it as well: more name recognition and extra promotion for your work as a composer...

This thread is resolved... it should be locked down.

Long story short kids, don't tell a pro what he should have done; as much as I campaign for free music, Nikolas is trying to make a living while still respecting that music should be widely available and I really commend him for that. So shaddup.

Y'all are acting like he went to the dude's house and tried to burn it down. He went through the appropriate channels, he didn't get any lawyers involved, so stop acting all high and mighty and protecting the person who is the bad guy here.

giancula: I actually did NOT involve any lawyer, but I would've done so.

We are confusing here, what I mention in the forums and what I would've done in case things got worst! Huge difference. Since I wanted the scores off the SMA, don't you think, that I'd have to NOT admit that "I don't really care since I'm not THAT big yet"? SMA and the links are mentioned all over the forums I posted, so chances are the owners are reading this. Makes sense to be and act and post, exactly as I would've done in the worst case scenario.

And I repeat: There was NO damages done, at this point. There was no sought after of damage fees, etc. Just to get my scores out of the database. The problem was that they replied 3-4 days after I contacted them through various means.
