Old Composer Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 So on Thursday I am conducting my modified woodwind sextet, Children's Games and the Loss of Naivete. Earlier in that same concert is the premiere of my Solo for Flute. And then Sunday is the premiere of my first commission, Theme and Oscillations for Brass, Organ, and Percussion. Pretty busy week. :D I'm excited, and I hope to put videos up on YouTube sometime soon. I'm a little nervous, but I conducted the piece once already, (though I still consider this the premiere). The Brass/Organ/Percussion piece is still not quite together, but they've still got two rehearsals in the Chapel (tonight was the first time the brass/percussion and organ rehearsed together) before Sunday, so I'm feeling okay. The flute piece is okay, nothing too fancy, but it's got a lot of music in it. Quote
composerorganist Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Jamie - Where are the cocnerts being held? There must be YCers nearby who would love to check out these pieces (including myself). And congrats on three premieres -- you are going to feel so HIGH (ok, granting the performers do a good job) I will be surprised to hear your slept! Quote
Flint Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Congratz, Jamie! Post a recording of the concert somewhere if you're able! Quote
Gardener Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Awesome! I wish I ever got three performances of different pieces of myself in one week... Sounds like something that won't happen in quite some time for me. Quote
Old Composer Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 It's at Oklahoma City University, in Oklahoma City. The first concert is Thursday at 8, the Brass piece is Sunday at 7:30. If there's anyone nearby they are certainly welcome to come to the concert. Quote
Nightscape Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Do you go to OCU? I almost went there. They have a very nice music building. I will be in the state on Sunday, but in Tulsa sadly ... good luck though! Quote
Old Composer Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Yeah. It's a great building, and my composition instructor is way awesome. As is my percussion instructor. I lucked out. :D Quote
Nightscape Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Is it Dr. Knight that is the comp teacher there? Quote
Daniel Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Congratulations! Theme and Oscillations...Love the name!! Quote
jujimufu Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Good job :) If I was around I'd definitely make sure to come and take a peak :) Also it's funny because we have to write a wind quintet for this semester, and one of the other students from my year called hers something like "The Five Stages of Childhood" (not related to Freud, though).. :hmmm: :P Quote
