Something I'm struggling with in my compositional practices is creating a more "natural" and evolving piece, that utilizes long phrases instead of a traditionally more pop-influenced short (meaning the number of bars, in this case) measure melody. I'm trying to break away from this habit and understand how to keep a piece moving and flowing, not rigid.

What are some materials that I can study, or techniques that I can apply in a pragmatic fashion?
