JohnBary01
hello Based on the fact that some compositions are not in 3 / 4 but still named waltzes (yanni's waltz in 7 / 8 for example), I gave to my composition the name of waltz it is in waltz rhythm but it changes into 4 / 4, then returns to the waltz So can I keep the name for this waltz composition? here is the composition zSHARE - The waltz of farewell.mp3
jujimufu
No. According to the Federal Corporation of Musical Name Allowance (FCMNA), "waltz is defined as a musical piece which is in consistent 3/4 (like Chopin's famous "Minute Waltz"). In other words, a piece named Waltz must bear a 3/4 time signature, or in rare cases (and depending on more extreme tempi) in other rhythms of 3. [...], a piece may have a time signature of 3/4 and not be considered to be a waltz, but the composer must apply for an application, and proof that the piece belongs to another genre (chaconne etc) must be provided upon request."
