Mathieux Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Okay.. i'm going to extend the deadline, because I got line 10 people who wanted to do the competition and only 2 people submitted their works :P the new deadline will be March 1, 2009 **********EDIT********** Just to make things.. clear.. this is for fun, you ain't gettin' nuttin' for winnin' :D Who can write the best arrangement of their favorite nursery rhyme? The only rules are: 1. The song must be well known. For example Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc. Nothing that is too off the wall, like some unknown song that was sung back in the medieval ages in Prussia. 2. Any Ensemble is Allowed. It can be anything, from two singers to a tuba and piccolo to full orchestra. Be creative and write something original 3. You must have the original song somewhere. If you don't have the original melody in your piece, then it (obviously) must be titled the song name. For example if I'm doing Mary Had a Little Lamb I'm not allowed to name my piece "The dark Moon" However you can somewhat redo the title, like "Mary's Lamb" or "The Little Lamb of Mary's" or just "Little Lamb" welly you get the picture. 4. The complete piece must be at least 1:30 long. Let's face it, it takes about :45 to sing the original song, or at least one verse of it, so 1:30 is basically just the song and one variation/arrangement of it. 5. Submissions are Due February 24, 2009.[/u][/b] That way I'll remember it 'cause that's my 16th birthday ;) Yay I'll get my driver's permit!! But anyway that's plenty of time, nearly 2 months. ENTRING 1. Be sure to PM all entries to me. I will send it to the other judges, (I will get other judges soon) and we will decide on the winner then, but please send all entries via PM. You are also welcome to post it here on the thread, but it won't be counted as an "official" entry unless messaged to me. 2. Entries will be due at midnight the night of the 24th. Midnight here meaning your midnight. So midnight in Pacific time for me would be 3am, but if you run on Pacific time than you still have until midnight. 3. Along with the entry you must include your piece as well as a description of your piece. Just a brief one, like "this is 'mary had a little lamb' arranged for alto, tenor, and bass kazoo." as well as any other information you might like to add. Please post here if you want to give it a try, and either post here or PM me your arrangement (I can see someone not wanting to post here in some sort of paranoia about someone stealing their ideas, so if you just PM it to me how can anyone else know what your wrote? Unless you don't mind sharing your ideas to the public.) Have fun! -Mathieu
Morivou Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I love that it is so stretched out... haha. I have already written Mary had a little lamb. BUT, I am going to arrange the piano version to a wind band arrangement. THAT will be fun. I'm in!!1

beautifulnoise Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hi, I have an idea for an arrrangment of happy birthday. Would that qualify?
OmarSanchez Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I orchestrated Jeux Interdits for a chamber orchestra (Unfortunately I am new at Finale 2009, so some stuff like how to put 2x only plays both times)...and the percussion on GPO isn't very good. so I will be sending it as soon as I convert it into MP3 from WAV
angushay Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 3 days and 12 hours left, but I'm up for entering this, if I'm not too late?
jcharney Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Hi,I have an idea for an arrrangment of happy birthday. Would that qualify? It's copyrighted...I probably wouldn't publish it online if I were you unless you want to get sued or buy the rights.
OmarSanchez Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 actually, I did research on this for my competition. It isn't in copyright. Its public domain because too many people are claiming it as theirs. an arrangement can be copyrighted but the actual piece is not copyrighted.
