Peter_W. Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Haydn trumpet concerto mvt I. The stuff in the trumpet before the exposition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqLI32bYnSU 0:28. An Eb. A classic Haydn joke. Quote
Peter_W. Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Think history. :P That piece was written for the first chromatic trumpet. It's only funny in an intellectual sense. Quote
tuohey Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 The hammer in Mahler 6 for me. It's probably more of a WTF moment though when you see it for the first time. Quote

J. Lee Graham Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Mozart's Eine Musikalischer Spass. Especially the sublime violin cadenza in the slow 3rd movement, and the final cadence of the 4th movement. :) Also lol-worthy is the epic fail of a fugato that keeps trying so hard to assert itself, but can't get beyond a couple of bars of counterpoint. (4th mvmt) lol wut ..? Edit: Even the minuet is hilarious. Everything is so stupid with it.......stupid horn writing, bad phrases, overly pompous gestures. I love this movement. Check out where the horns end up in the wrong key.. sounds pretty bitonal for a few bars. Also notice how hugely much the trio dwarfs the minuet itself. :P Another great bit of genius from Mozart. He was lampooning lesser-quality professional musicians and composers such as might have been working in small towns or minor courts in Europe. There had to have been a million of them. In the Minuet, Mozart actually calls for one of the natural horns to put in the wrong crook (F-sharp instead of F), which is why it sounds so fantastically awful. A great favourite of mine, as much fun to play as it is to listen to...particularly on period instruments. I love the opening motive of the 1st movement - indescribably bad - followed by the skittery thing in the fiddles. And yes, the fugato in the finale is priceless. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 My LOL WUT: The ending of William Walton's "Belshazzar's Feast." First time I heard this I was a ringing, sightreading the piece at dress-rehearsal and performance: the last chord with full organ nearly blew the windows out of 1st Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. The whole piece is pretty WUT though. It's great, but sometimes I really wonder where Walton's head was. Quote
composerorganist Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 My favorite LOLWUT still remains Ethel Merman Disco: Sampliing for those whom I have not victimized with her rendition of Some People: It actually starts of cool with the Jaws like opening ... and then and then ... well let the music speak for itself. ANd here is my 2nd lolwut - Kurt Russel sings and not that bad for an Archie Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 The last 5 bars of Mozart's musical joke. Though the entire piece is FULL of "LOLWUT" moments haha Quote
