HymnSpace Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hi all, I maybe getting work at the Hilton playing piano in the restaurant. I was just wondering what to charge if they decide to hire me. Anyone got any ideas what the average price would be for an evenings work there? Hope someone can help :) Quote
Gijs Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I work in a local bar as a pianist and I earn around 10 euro's an hour. That's considert very low. It would say 15 euros is a acceptable wage per hour. On the other hand the tips can be very good and I can sell my CD there. So i kind of depents on the things there is on the side, but 15 euro(20 dollar) per hour is reasonable I think Quote
MattGSX Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I think, before deciding what to charge, you need to look at what others in your area are charging. Find out what quartets or other ensembles are charging in your area for parties and wedding receptions. Do you have a resume of prior long-term gigs? Also, you need to ask yourself a big question: Do you care more about the exposure and performance opportunities, or about the money? When I play gigs, I usually only charge $50-$75 a night, depending on the services offered. If it's a bar, and I get free drinks or food, I'll charge less, but that's because my playing gets worse throughout the night :) For weddings, I always charge only what the wedding party says they can afford, assuming I wouldn't be losing money by working my weekend job.
