MidiKareshi Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Hey, boys and girls. Do any of you happen to know what scale this is? C Db Eb F G A Bb C I was studying a part and determined that this is the scale it's written in. It sounds very familiar to me, but unfortunately I can't google on a sequence of notes. Quote
benxiwf Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 basically a phrygian scale without a lowered sixth..don't know that there is a particular name for it Quote
robinjessome Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 C Db Eb F G A Bb C It's the second mode of the ascending melodic minor. I call it "Dorian, b2", but I have seen it called "Phrygian, #6" ... Quote

MidiKareshi Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 Sorry, it ain't new.Javanese Scale: C, Db, Eb, F, G, A, Bb, C It is to me. :) So it's also known as the Javanese Scale. Why is it called that? Did it really originate in Java? Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I would assume it approximates slendro scale, which is a 7-note scale. On the other hand, robin's terminology is significantly more clear. Can we just abolish named scales? Quote
