Morivou Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Marius has a pretty awesome instrument range poster. Posters are always a cool thing to sell. Agreed! I love posters. Quote

What about gift cards? Or, some sort of certificate or credit system. We could give gifts to other members, or let other people buy us gift cards so that we can get more music stuff. Quote
impresario Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I have also been looking for small (or big) books of plain sheet music. Quote
chopin Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 I can put up manuscript paper, however the minimum requirement to purchase at Young Composers is $100 (for now), until the store picks up volume. So this may be a problem until I lower the minimum spend per order. Quote
piano_player18 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 How about selling the forum members CDs or MP3? That would be awesome! Quote
Gardener Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I'm kind of wondering how the shipment pricing works. It gives flat rates for all items, but I find it hard to believe it's possible to send 50 doublebasses to Croatia for $20. Quote
chopin Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 If someone orders 50 doublebasses, I could afford to ship for only $20! But I use flat rate shipping because I do not stock anything at my place, so I cannot guarantee 1 day, or 2 day shipping. I try my best to balance price, and reasonable shipping times. It usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks to ship if someone purchases from Young Composers. Quote
James H. Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Planning on doing a report anytime on how the Store has been faring so far? I'm sure as far as some members are concerned (myself included) it's pretty much condoned to being a little button that you can press on the top of the page but usually don't. I'm just curious what kind of sales you've had so far. I can tell you I was very surprised when you put it up suddenly! Quote

I'm just curious what kind of sales you've had so far. I can tell you I was very surprised when you put it up suddenly! I'm selling mostly Sibelius 6, no Finale 2010s yet. I also sold a "Complete Composers Collection", Chris Heins Horns and Guitars, Gary Garritan's Steinway Piano and a Personal Composer. Young Composers has made $5,000 in total sales last month, and sold a total of 11 packages. I will not disclose profits. Quote
JairCrawford Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 How about selling the forum members CDs or MP3? That would be awesome! :w00t: I like that idea! @Chopin: Woah, there's a Sibelius 6 out already? Quote
chopin Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 @Chopin: Woah, there's a Sibelius 6 out already? Oh boy, you don't see the ads for Sibelius 6 on this forum? :hmmm: Quote
James H. Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 *refreshes the screen half a dozen times* OH, there it is! Yeah, now I remember - I've been seeing Sibby 6 quite a bit, no worries there. Just needed to jog my memory. Well, you won't disclose profits, that's fine. Could you at least tell us - are things looking good for the future of the YC Store? Potential wise based on sales so far? You don't have to answer that if you don't want to, of course. You could ignore the question and remove this from my post if you so wished. Quote
OmarSanchez Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 You can sell musical web templates for those who want to make a website that looks very professional for musicians/composers. (I know people who can design them) You can also sell business cards, stationary etc. Quote
chopin Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 The store is picking up, and the future looks good. I didn't expect so many sales the second month of business. The first month of business, there were 0 sales as expected, but the second month picked up to around 11 sales. I'm in the process of updating the sheet music database, so that there is a much more abundant selection, which may help increase store traffic. The money from profits will go towards developing new parts of the store. Quote
JairCrawford Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Oh boy, you don't see the ads for Sibelius 6 on this forum? :hmmm: lol, don't worry, it's just me. I haven't been on here as often lately. Quote
Ravels Radical Rivalry Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I don't know how I missed this thread until now, huh? I have not read the whole thing and I do not know what has been requested as of yet. So, I might repeat some requests. If the store was selling good recordings by good performers or had good sheet music or scores then I would buy stuff. I used to (meaning last early last year) buy all of my CD's at borders or somewhere like that. I was a die hard CD jacket and case fan. I wanted the whole package. I still do. However, I have given in a little. I have not bought a CD in a while. I have though downloaded from itunes a lot lately. If I found something worth purchasing that was special enough then I would still go to the store and purchase the whole CD. I do so with all the soundtracks that I like. So, if you had great options for CDs in the store that I could not find at Borders then I would consider purchasing those. I have never bought a CD from Amazon though. However, I would be more likely to purchase sheet music collections or books and entire scores from this store. I like Henle Urtext editions the best probably. I also like Schirmer a lot. So, I would be less likely to purchase a Hal Leonard or the equivalent of sheet music or score. And if you had some really interesting things - some rare stuff then I would probably purchase a lot of sheet music and scores. I would be interested in piano solo and especially interested in 4 hand piano. I would be interested in full orchestral scores and cello piano pieces. So, nice high quality complete scores, nice high quality sheet music, good recordings and performances of stuff on CD. I would also purchase teaching guide kinds of things. I like the Secret Composer, Easy Music Theory, etc. kind of thing. If you had beginner to advanced composition lesson software (orchestration, notation, theory, harmony, etc.) to purchase I would look into that as well. [EDIT] - I am kind of impressed with what I do see in the store. There are some good things. However, I am kind of disappointed by the fact that you don't have CD's and Sheet music and scores in there. Quote
chopin Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Sheet music is underway. I had to redo that section, in order to categorize it in a better way. We will have a huge variety of sheet music products, but I need about 2 weeks to import the 90,000+ sheet music products. Quote
