I know, this is the 3rd competition I have going on at a time. But this one is necessary:). I need a piece for my solo violin performance, and I decided I would like to make it a competition. Winner obviously gets a live performance. But here are the requirements:

1. Must be submitted as Finale 2008 or earlier OR as a PDF and a MIDI.

2. Must not be overly-difficult.

3. Must contain piano part.

Deadline is April 20th. Performance is April 24. For more information, send me a PM.

I suppose. But I think I can learn it. I have the days before it off, ao I can practice as much as I want. I'm hoping most people have the same idea of what constitutes as "overly-difficult." If not, I'm in trouble:)

I'd like to do this, but I've a question:

What constitutes hard on violin? I'm not exactly an expert on the subject, so is it things like chromatics, high notes, rhythms, speed, etc? Like what is considered difficult for YOU on the instrument?

Not too many fast notes, and not too high. I can do chromatics. The highest note should be no higher than a G above the staff. Thanks for your questions:).

It is just a random performance. So make it sound how you please. Length is optional. It's an hour long performance though, and I have 45 minutes worth of music, so no longer than 15 minutes. But that would be too long for a single piece anyway:). Which reminds me. Please, if you are going to submit a sonata, please only submit 1 movement, not the whole thing.

ASTA grades string pieces 1-6, so i don't know what ranking you are using.

However, even 4's go above the G above the staff.

What if we write a sonata in one movement, or two? Still only submit one movement?

Sorry I am using the grading scale we use in lessons. I forgot that it was made up for a moment:). If you write a sonata in 2 movements, submit both, but only one will be guaranteed a performance. If I still need to fill space, I will play both. I can't find any example pieces because I want something completely different. I was hoping somebody would just write one and I would say "That's it!" But I guess that would be unlikely. So how about this. Perhaps a combonation of Escala's take on Karl Jenkins' Palladio, Bond's Explosive, and something with a more classical feel. (No drums required ;) ). If anyone has the technology to create a drum track, I wouldn't say no. But of course, I wouldn't judge against you if you didn't. Just know that if you do, 2 MIDI's or mp3's must be included. One with the piece as a whole (violin, piano, and drums) and one with just the drums. Anyway, I guess the feel I want is something fast-paced and fun, as well as modern, but it should still retain the feel of the classical style. As for difficulty, I think something with the difficulty of Vivaldi's 4 Seasons would need a little longer, but I can handle anything easier than that. I hope that helped!
