The shoutbox can only be read bottom-to-top, that is, with the newest message continually appearing at the top, and working their way down. To get a coherent idea of the conversation, thus, one must read it, as stated, from the bottom to the top.

This is the opposite of AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, and Facebook messenger, and I find the entire business horridly disorienting. Mike--and I'm speaking directly to you, now--I cannot emphasize how incredibly grateful I would be if you managed to add a feature that allows a user to select what direction he would like the shoutbox posts to flow.

I give my sincerest thanks en avance.

I tried turning it upside down like you described in order to more accurately emulate what should be expected of a chat interface, but people complained about the change and asked that it be reverted. It would be possible to add a per-user option for this...though not instantaneously.

Sapphy-Maxy, you are more than welcome to leave if its such a problem for you.

Alternatively, I suggest you hang upside down from the ceiling and read it the "right" way. Not that you need your head inflated anymore by more blood rushing to your brain.
