Slayertplsko Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I don't know where to put it, so I'm doing so here. Could anyone recommend me some books dealing with Indian ragas?? I prefer one that contains all 72 parental ragas and some theory behind them so that I can learn to incorporate them into my playing. Thanks in advance. Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 kksongs.org is a solid resource from what I can tell. It's what I used for when i was getting into Indian music, but I think it mixes Carnatic and Hindustani styles. It's also got a number of talas. Ragas in Indian Music : A Complete Reference Source for Carnatic Ragas, Hindustani Ragas, Western Scales, Kathakali Ragas and Tamil Panns [Music Book:English] by V.K. Krishna Prasad,Buy Ragas in Indian Music : A Complete Reference Source for Carnatic was the first Google result. There was also a book that I read on time in Indian music (I think this is it: Time in Indian Music: Rhythm, Metre, and Form in North Indian Rag Performance: Martin Clayton: Amazon.ca: Books) that really opened my eyes to some interesting concepts. But again, it only refers to Hindustani music. Quote
