Gijs Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Hello all, Along with some fellow YC’ers, I have the desire to build up an instrumentalists' network in order to perform the works of our fellow young composers. To start it off I’m offering my abilities as a pianist to those who might need one for a performance. The procedure will be as following. Composers can send in the sheet music and the midi/mp3 of a piece they’ve composed via respond. The possibilities will be a piece for piano solo and piece for piano and a second instrument they are able to play themselves. I will record the piano part on my piano. I will send the recording to you and you can record your part over it. If more instrumentalists join, we can accept and record larger pieces, and if there are any specialists in the field of recording that could offer help in that area I know we would all be very grateful. I know this will not be as good as the real deal, but I started this thread to get the wheel spinning. This way we can build up a way of performing pieces much more fertile then the real life options. Hopefully in the future it will evolve to a good alternative. The idea is to create a network of instrumentalists who can work on a project by recording the parts they can play over other recording. I do not yet know how this will work out, but you can’t eat fruits without planting the seeds first. I hope this will be a juicy one! So if play an instrument and you feel this has a chance, you may join in by offering you services too. Thank you, Gijs --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For an overview of all instrumentalists, mix-artists and pending and accepted pieces go to: http://wiki.youngcomposers.com/Performance_Network --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I'd be down if you want to do my piano miniatures! I'm also a bass guitarist, if that helps anyone... Quote
wayne-scales Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Composers in need of certain musicians should post here too. Quote
robinjessome Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I'm in... I play trombones... (No low B's for bass bone plz) ... I can record/overdub as necessary. Quote
Berlioz Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I want a pianist to play my Wasteland with the necessary humanity and excessive rubato!! Quote
Cody Loyd Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 this is good.. and something I was thinking about asking for in the future. I play guitar... electric/jazz/acoustic/classical/whatever I am not AMAZING.. but i am pretty good.. ask and I'll tell you if I can play it. Quote
wayne-scales Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I want a pianist to play my Wasteland with the necessary humanity and excessive rubato!! I thought you played the piano? I don't pay attention to those notational things since I have yet to need a clean score for anything. :P I suggest you clean up the score now then, seeing as you now have need of a clean one! Quote
Gardener Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Great idea here! I'll sign up as soon as I can spare enough money to buy me a decent pair of microphones  (But I'm first saving for a decent pair of monitors. I can't just rely on headphones forever Quote
Old Composer Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I'm a percussionist. Include steel drum, all percussion keyboard instruments, and most western non-pitched instruments. Some latin drums and semi-exotic instruments (chinese gongs, etc.) are available to me as well. Quote
Max Castillo Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I wish I had time for this, I'd love to help. I'm a pianist and have a very lovely virtual Steinway grand which sounds so good and realistic, but I'm afraid I just don't have the time. :( Quote
Berlioz Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I thought you played the piano? For some reason I can't really play that piece well... :( I suggest you clean up the score now then, seeing as you now have need of a clean one! Is that a "yes, I will play it"? :w00t: Quote
Mathieux Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Hey I can play both bassoon and saxophone at a pretty high caliber (1st chair all-state bassoon and have been playing alto and tenor for 8 years, bari for about 4) but i can also double on clarinet and play pretty well, so long as it isn't TOO high (like about the E 3 lines above the staff, that shouldn't give me too much trouble until a REAL clarinetist steps on) Quote
James H. Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I might be valuable on the following: Trumpet, on which I have a pretty full playing range Horn, which I'm horrible at in the mid-low register, but otherwise solid all over. Tuba, which is only a three valve piece of crap and sounds as such, but I'm pretty able at it Bb clarinet, i'm okay with teh high notes... sometimes... fine up to way high A. alto clarinet, I don't suck, I make it useable at least for the full range. soprano recorder, which is so fun! Skill level - I can just about play this: http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/concert-tude-unaccompanied-recorder-15613.html crystal flute/fife in G, range G4 to about D6, playing in distant keys is ackward. flint is really the one that can chew clarinet parts and bit them back out - he plays all woodwinds exceptionally to my knowledge, but I'm not sure if he has recording capabilities. Mathieu... I wonder if you're good enough to play my bassoon duet. I can *almost* play most of it. http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/duet-two-bassoons-12463.html Quote
Cody Loyd Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 In case you missed it.. I am looking for performers here: http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/online-free-improv-collaboration-20234.html check it out! Quote

Voce Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 This shouldn't be a thread where you just take as many performances as you can get and not give anything in return, lawl. At least make yourself available as a performer if you can before asking for 12982 people to play your pieces. Quote
Berlioz Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Well, then I shall take my leave. :( I play the piano, but I suck at learning and performing well in general. Quote
robinjessome Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 This shouldn't be a thread where you just take as many performances as you can get and not give anything in return I disagree. Composers who don't play (or don't play well enough to participate) shouldn't feel discouraged from asking people to help out. Performers should also feel welcome to turn down any requests, and not feel obligated to help out if they don't feel so inclined. This shouldn't be a: scratch my back, I'll scratch yours service here... :whistling: Quote
Morgri Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I'm a pianist, and I'll play some piano music for those who'd like a performance. Quote
Mathieux Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 :w00t:Would you and wayne-scales be willing/able to play my Nonsense-Scherzo? i'll look at it and see what i can do, i'm kinda bored with mozart's bassoon concert :( i don't like it that much and my instructor is tired of it as well since his other student just memorized the entire thing :P *looks at score* yeah, this looks do-able :w00t: Quote
Berlioz Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Yay!! wayne-scales, how about you? I can ask Morgri if you don't want to. :P Quote
wayne-scales Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Ask Morgri, I don't know what gave you the idea that I said I'd play for you! I can't play the piano for three months! Quote
