judgep32 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Hey guys, I'm new to this site but I was just wondering, me being a composition newbie but yet really anxious to learn, where do I begin? I am learning theory pretty in depth at the moment as well as ear training and playing my instrument(classical guitar). I do play piano decently as well. I have some books on harmony and counterpoint, but do I need to start like copying out works from well known composers or something? Like what do I need to be doing for practice besides the theory?I am doing a performance degree starting next year in guitar but I hope to get a master's in composition and really pursue that at some point. THANKS! Quote
Plutokat Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Just start writing. Write and listen to music thats all I can really say. You might want to talk to the person at you school that teaches composition as well. Quote
The J Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 +1 the best way to learn to compose is to compose. Quote
