PhantomOftheOpera Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 So... when you write, is writing melody first or harmony first better? Or is there any difference? I know that sometimes when you have a great melody the harmony can get tricky and vice-versa, or sometimes you just jam out a nice progression and you just hear that there is a great melody within it, I am however, interested in how the rest of you do your stuff, so please share some insight. Xeno Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I've thought about asking this same question for some time now. For the most part, I write the melody first and then find a harmony to go with it. I usually start writing intending to write in a certain key and then the melody eventually comes to me. I've tried writing the harmony first, but the melody I created from it was simply... bad. Quote
