firsty_ferret Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Hey guys, Next year for my final year of A level music I have to study Stockhausen's stimmung. Before i begin i'd like to know some of the background to the piece, but other than wikipedia i've had trouble finding any reliable sources. Would anyone who knows anything about it please mind giving me some details? Thanks in advance, Ferret. Quote
firsty_ferret Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 I haven't been given a score or recording yet, so all i've heard are odd bits on youtube. I have to say i'm not dead keen on what I have heard. Quote
Gavin Gorrick Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I don't know what's on YouTube, but the piece is pretty impactful/interesting, at least to me. Ya know, as far as **beauty** or whatever is concerned, nothing to me is greater than just the sound of the human voice, and if you google around and find Stockhausen's program notes you'll really get a sense of what he's doing. FTR: This piece is very similar to Tuvan throatsinging and their folk music. I THINK he drew influence from that, or some other country's throatsinging, but either way that's something to keep in mind. These are not sounds of the "glorious" West. Quote
firsty_ferret Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Thanks for the insight - i've taken down some notes :) Thanks again, Ferret Quote
Alexander Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I have Stimmung in CD. I'll try to take a photo of the booklet with all the information and post it here. I could write a summary of what it says, but I am bored. :) Quote
Alexander Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 The quality is not so good, but here it is: Quote
