DrewKohl Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Hello, I've started teaching guitar lessons not too long ago and I've got a few students who are absolute beginners with no musical background whatsoever. They're learning on the acoustic guitar and I'm having trouble figuring out fun lessons to teach them. I was wondering if anyone had any good songs for beginning guitarists. Something popular and recognizable. I'm pretty okay with teaching basic music theory, but if you have any advice for that I'd be happy to hear as well. Anyway thanks for the help it's greatly appreciated. -Drew Quote

johnoeth Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Classical guitar or "popular guitar"? May want to begin with asking them what kind of music they like or a song they would like to learn. For classical, my guitar teacher usually gives them a popular melody to learn. I think age plays a big factor in teaching beginners. Quote
Mirchada Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 there is a book I think it's called GUITARAMA really useful ! Quote
DrewKohl Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 yeah, I should have specified, I'm teaching them popular guitar not classical Quote

Ferkungamabooboo Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Any "chordy" song will do. Throw in a melody line here and there, and it's golden... Why not ask your students what songs they want to learn, and then apply the techniques to those songs? Quote
Houshintida Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 leaving on a jet plane, when September ends, that are some of the songs could easily be played by a guitar. hope i can help ;) Quote
