Morivou Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 AUGUST MONTHLY COMPETITION!!! WOOO HOOOOOO!!!! THE EXPRESSIONIST COMPETITION! Start: NOW! What are you waiting for??? End: September 5th. Results: September 10th. Purpose: Create a composition that evokes an emotion. You should disregard ALL musical theory and just try to picture the emotion you want. Rules: 1. It must be under 5 minutes, but no less than 3 minutes. 2. It may be for ANY combination of instruments. This includes a choir or voice. 3. The SOLE factor on which this competition is based is: Creativity and passion. 4. The piece does NOT need to have audio with it, if you so choose. It can be just a score. Like I said, creativity is the POINT. WHY this stye of competition? Because in the July competition, I found people with BOUNDARIES looking to escape them. So now is your chance. As long as you aren't apathetic, you will do well in this competition. remember, this is not a test of who KNOWS the best, it is a competition of who can COMMUNICATE the best. This is an Expressionist Competition. There will be THREE Judges, including me, so two others will judge. Judges: 1. Morivou 2. OMWBWAY 3. Christopher Dunn-Rankin (Judges spots are now full) Competitors: 1. Jimmyjuicin' - Rage 2. Blackballoons - Pensive 3. Impresario - Grief 4. Voce - Terror 5. Henk Vogal - (undecided) 6. impresario Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Ooh, I'm exited! Can we at least get a hint of what's to come?
Morivou Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 No. I want everybody to be on the same page.
HeckelphoneNYC Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Hmmmm.......I wonder what it is..... I'll be glad to join when I know what it is ;)
Henk Vogel Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I agree with Heck, but maybe I'll forget it. I often forget competitions. :innocent:
James H. Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Just release the details now. The earlier, the more time we have. The more time we have, the more participants. The more participants, the better.
Morivou Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Just release the details now. The earlier, the more time we have. The more time we have, the more participants. The more participants, the better. James!!!! Be patient... I have to come up with one first... Lol.
J.I.A. Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 So today is the 10th and I am interested in joining the competition...What are the rules? :-)
blackballoons Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I just finished writing a very "pensive" piece, so I think I'll enter that now...here's a link. http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/where-souls-meet-under-trees-flute-cello-21391.html#post312035 Looking forward to the other entries. This should be interesting!
Morivou Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 You are both in! And, we already have a submission!! YAY!!!
impresario Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Hello, could I please have Grief? This sounds fun!
Morivou Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 You should! Since you posted it after the change was made, it technically counts. lol.
blackballoons Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Yay! That makes me happy. I wish people would comment on it though...I haven't been online for two weeks and I think that means I should go comment on other people's stuff more. >< I MISSED SO MUCH.
J.I.A. Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 May I join the competition? If so I would like to write a piece on the emotion "sadness"
James H. Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Ooh, really REALLY good idea! This is a great composing exercise... try and write a short cue for each of these. I'm not sure which of these I'll do yet... I usually write music, then decide what it evokes, then consciously pursue what I subconsciously started.
Henk Vogel Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I think I'm also going to try something :) Not sure which emotion yet.. Perhaps joy, or boredom.. or fear
impresario Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 When is the deadline? The last day of August?
